Ramping back up the breeding setup

Stocking continues for the brood stock. Picked up six Bangaii Cardinals to start pairing up from Rit. Awesome store as always and he had just gotten some amazing wrasses in while I was there. Took everything I had not to pick up a couple!

Getting ready for rotifers and copepods Brine shrimp hatching for now.

I am excited about working with Kevin at Heisenberg Aquaculture on my breeding project. His company will be able to provide me with a good supply of copepod nauplii as a first food for some of the more difficult species I am hoping to try and raise. It's a huge advantage to have access to his incredible assortment of live food for my efforts. I can't wait to get started.

I got cocky after successfully drilling three 10 gallon tanks last week and proceeded to crack the two I tried drilling this morning. D'oh! Now I have to wait for the 1$ sale to pick up some more! If anybody has any use for 2 cracked 10 Gallon and a cracked 20g Long tanks let me know. They are free! Guess they would work for amphibs or some other critters... hopefully I'll have better luck with the next batch of tanks!

It looks like I may have the first pair of Bangaii Cardinals from the small group of six fish. Two seem to have paired up and the female is keeping the other four cardinals away from the pair. I'll watch a couple of more days then try separating the pair in to another tank. The Yasha goby pair seems to be acclimating well now. One of them consistently hovers outside their cave and hawks for food. I haven't seen the shrimp goby since it went in to the tank but that is not usual. The clown pairs are acclimated as well and one of the females looks like she is starting to prepare her chosen spawning site in one of the flower pots. Maybe I'll have some eggs sooner than I expected! I'll try and take some crappy iPhone pics and post them later today

Petco said the sale starts in a couple of days.

Picked up some more 10's and 20's at the Petco sale. Now I can try drilling again. Missed the Ochre-striped Cardinal spawn when he released two nights ago. I'll have to wait for the next spawn. I did see some Three Striped Damsels spawning yesterday and today there is a nice mass of eggs on the glass in the back corner of the 120. I may try collecting those as well. I don't recall how long they take to hatch so have to do some research. Looks like a few hundred eggs though. Very cool. I'll try and see if I can get some pics.

Bad pic of the eggs and the female guarding her nest.

Successful morning! I drilled four of the new tanks (3 10's and 1 20H) and only cracked one 10 Gallon! I consider that a major accomplishment! Continuing to build out the rest of the brood stock system. Need to pick up a few bulkheads now and finish the plumbing but here is a pic of the setup so far.

Had to separate the Bangaii Cardinals yesterday. A definite pair formed and the female started beating up the other four cardinals to keep them at bay. Moved them in to one of the other tanks and now looking for a second pairing and it looks like I may have another bonded pair forming with the other four cardinals. I need to finish setting up the rest of the tanks because I am running out of tank space for pairs!

I finished plumbing the new tanks in to the brood stock system. The tanks are full and they are now running through the sump. Here are a few pictures.

Some pics of the new tanks plumbed in to the system. Now there are four 20 highs and three 10’s.

Been running for the past 49 hours and no leakage! I'll do a large water change this weekend. So far things looking pretty good. I saw that the Three Striped Damsel eggs must have hatched out last night. There are a few eggs still on the glass but the majority have hatched. I wasn't sure of the timing so I did not collect any of the larvae. I'll wait and see but it looks like only 5 days before they hatch, not very long compared to clownfish.

I don't usually like to order fish online but I have been looking for some Tail Spot Blennies to try and pair up and found them online. I ordered four and they got here yesterday. After 24 hours, they all seem to be doing fine. At first observation, it looks like two may already be bonding. They are together in one of the pieces of PVC and have been keeping the other two away. Fingers crossed! I'd like to pick up where I left off with this species and see if I can get some through meta phase. I'll try to get a couple of pics and post later.

Im excited to see the outcome. What are you going to do with the finished livestock?
