Nitrates

So heres an interesting thought I had. The nitrates in my frag tank are really low...and they are really high in my DT.
Instead of dosing nitrates in the frag tank - what if I just exchanged a few cups of water from one tank to the other every week?

Thoughts? Downsides?

Auto water change from one tank to the other.

If you run a full daily water change through the frag tank you shouldnt need to adjust any parameters.

Or you could figure out what's causing one tank to be high and the other low and fix the root problem....

Don’t know if this is feasible but since you are exchanging water why not plumb them together?

Agreed on plumbing them together; it's good for both system's stability and removes the need to care for two separate biomes. unless you're trying to run the frag system with elevated alk, in that case just dose nitrates or leave a cocktail shrimp somewhere it'll rot.
