24 Gal Cube SPS nano reef tank

In my tank, Vodka is having too much impact but I am only dosing “0.05ml” per day.

And as is with carbon dosing, one dominant strain of bacteria will be presented and it happens to be green cyano or Dino but looks more like cyano than does with Dino. I kinda regret going vodka dosing rough over the turf scrubber route. But it works.

Just vacuum the cyano with small water changes. Thats how I took care of it. It took almost 2 months with doing it weekly, but it worked. Dinos is a different story, lol. I started back up vodka dosing to outcompete dinos and its working for me.

Took a micro shot exactly 1 month ago on April 7th. So these are photos exactly month apart.
First photo was from September 1st last year when corals were first introduced.

Nice growth!

Wife made a mistakes that I have to now hope it will be okay -,-:

I was out of town for 4 days and while I was out of town, I’ve given my wife few things to do.
(Feeding and checking the skimmer cup)

Only thing I’ve changed from the past is that I’ve asked her to put 1 drop of poly booster once in the morning and once in the evening with regular feeding.

I came home yesterday and did 5Gal water change and noticed little milky water but I figure it was due to dimmed light.

SO, I was doing my regular water testing at 6:30am and noticed my phosphate was out of range on Hanna Checkers. It was coming back at 0.90 blinking which means out of range. And the color of testing water was blue blue. It is not that blue. So I tested 3 times using different vials and solution. All same 0.90 blinking.

stopped by @chuck and got some GFO and test reagents in case it was test kit fault. Came home tested, came back same.

So I asked my waive if she didn’t anything that I asked not to do? She went thru what she did and find out that she was dropping a whole dropper instead of just one drop. Can’t blame her since it was my fault for not giving detailed instructions.
So I am currently working in lowing the phosphate. Will do one more 5G water change today and one tommorow. Hope it will drop gradually and not shock the tank. So far, noting has been effected. Wish me luck. I will make a note here for future reference. I still love her

This is good stuff that will raise your phosphate

High phosphates just prevent calcification of corals, so no need to panic and do anything drastic. If you are going to do GFO, go very little cause stripping it too fast can do more harm than good. Else, just chip away with water changes at this size tank.

I’ve added 4tbsp of gfo in a bag to prevent from stripping away too fast using the reactor. I plan to pull it out once phosphate comes down to

-My phosphate came back down to around 0.15-0.20 in last 10days from idk how high. Using 4tbs of GFO (took it out today. It seems to stop pulling phosphate but still pulling nitrate). and three water changes. Nitrate is also lowering so I’ve been adding NeoNitro.
-Stopped vodka dosing. Which seems to eliminate most of green bacteria films on the substrate.
-I had incident where Power went out (wife says twice) while I was out of town and one of EB8 never turned back on for 3+days (kalk pump ,2x Nero ph’s, and roller mat). Came home to water over flowing thru roller mat and got me looking into the system, two power heads were also off for 3+days and alk dropped to Im not sure. (I did two 5Gal water changes and turned kalk back on and it’s now stable at 7.8-7.9. It was around 8.5 usually. UPS box replaced. Back to regular schedule. Simple water change once a week.
-My salinity is getting lowered. Adding extra saltwater to being it back to 1.025-1.027.

Yesterday before 3rd water change (probably disnt need it but pH has been low lately). 97E24993-2469-40CA-A3FF-BF089930B18E.jpeg

If you ant taking notes, you should. It’s best way to keep track of things happening in your tank. Happy reefing <><

No, I thought it was my eb8 but it was my UPC power unit. It supposed have turned back on but the outlet I’ve plugged eb8 into stopped working. As we know UPC both surge only and surge plus battery power. This one stopped working but I had this one for longtime.

Good thing (knocking on wood), is that, living in Atlanta, I’ve never lost power longer than a day in reefing.

Cool. I guess you travel a lot for work or did all this happen the last time you were out of town and didn’t realize it until recently?

I travel about two weeks out of a month to other states. This was second week I was out and happened. My temperature was 1 degree cooler than usual but that will be due to powerhead being off realizing it after.

I found a clear plastic cap. So I used it to take a pretty cool top down shot while pumps are on. (This plastic cap has a flaw and that is it has little dot in the middle of the cap). You can see in the pictures. I need find one where I can lay the phone inside. Im not paying $50 for those premade ones. 🧐

11 month update:
-Stopped vodka dosing. Which eliminated the green cyano bacteria. Carbon dosing will do that. One strain of dominant bacteria will over populate. Mine never seized until I stoped dosing.
-That’s about it. Same everything.
-Still needing to dose nitrate time to time.
-Moved hammers around to make better flow between them.
-Got few encrusting corals added.

-Tank: 24 Gal aqua top reef tank + 7Gal sump
