GFO fizzing when first put in water.

My GFO starts fizzing for a second when I put it in water (ro) to rinse it. Anyone know if this is normal or if it’s gone bad or something?

So I did some research it might mean there’s calcium bicarbonate on the granules. What typically happens when you use it to begin with. Some people say they reuse their gfo but rinsing the particle matter through acid mediated removal? Not sure but my organic chemistries have not prepped me for this chemistry
