Holesaw

Does anyone have a holesaw I can barrow for a 1" bulkhead? Or 3/4" bulkhead?

Try home depot, I think they typically carry those sizes and the bits aren't too expensive. I would suggest taking the bulkhead with you to make sure the whole is large enough....

I didn't realize it was that indept!! Glass. I looked at the glass-holes website and thought about going that route and getting the tool to hold the drill, therefore other people can barrow it.

You don't need no tool to hold it. Just very light pressure and a steady hand.

Just chuck the bit so that if you hold it with your hand it will spin in the chuck instead of bind in the hole. Drill outside if possible with water running over the bit. It really is easy. I will drill it for you if you want to bring it to dallas but it would not be economically feasible.

Thanks for the offer! I will try it and see how it turns out. If it becomes a disaster, I might have to pay a visit! Then again, it would give me a reason to check out your toys!

You can take a piece of thin wood or acrylic and drill it first. Then duct tape it where you want it and it will guide the bit while you drill the tank.

I thought about that. I was just worried the water might not cool the bit enough. unless I ran a hose to it while I drilled... Thanks for the advice!

I jused a piece of Acrylic. Since the holes needed to be near the top of the tank I just clamped them and then clamped th garden hose next to it to keep a steady stream on it. On WMBoots tank the hole we drilled was in the bottom so we used the same piece of acrylic but used duct tape and it worked perfect. Enough water will run between the bit and the acrylic to cool it. Every 20-30 second I would lift the bit and let all the glass dust wash out. Use almost no pressure especially when you are close to going through or it will chip.

good idea Rich. Once you get the bit started you can even take the acrylic away.
