WTB New Stainless Steel Piano Hinge

Looking for a 48" X 1 1/2" stainless steel piano hinge for a canopy. Preferably pre drilled (stainless is a bugger). If anyone knows a source out there let me know. Thanks!

I'm not sure but I think I saw these at Lowe's. They aren't cheap!

Dont bother they will still rust. Just get regular old door hinges and oil them up real good. That way after a year or two when they rust out its only $3 to replace them and 6 screws as opposed to god knows how much for a piano hing and 5 million screws.

Hinge

Is painting these things feasible? Or what would we reccomend for use on the oil to slow down the rust?

It might sound cheesy but what about plastic. It wont rust. Just do a search for"plastic hinge"

there is a spray coating you can buy at Lowe's (I think it's called Plasti-coat..in the spray paint section) that might work well in this application.

Painting is not gonna do much good for corrosion on a piano hinge. To many parts rubbing together.

Rockler doesn't stock 48" stainless hinges, only 36" and 72". They're also non-polished so they're sorta ugly. Been there done that!

If I were you I'd go with the cheap(er) piano hinges from Lowe's and just deal with replacing it every other year. They're only about $12, and are available in 48" length.

I have found them at west marine and boater's world in the past. You can check some of the RV shops as well they often have them.

Grouper,

Is it possible to cut piano hinges to length and hammer a bulge on the end of the pin to keep it from sliding out? I've never tried it but just had the thought.

Yes i cut most of mine . You can mushroom the end or give it a very slight bend to keep it from walking out the other end.
