im getting frustrated lol. i trying to find the right sealent to use in my reqium /wetdry/sump but all 100% salent says not to use below water line. or not safe for aquiriums. what do yall use as m rebuilding my sump/wetdry/reqium. going with glass baffles this time the acrilic was to weak.

GE Silicone I Rubber Silicone for Windows. Accept no substitutes and make sure it has no anti-mildew components in it.

i originaly built it with just silicone . i sraped most out will it hurt my corals. im trying to get it all off the 75 gal reqium now.

Ive heard quite a few accounts of using the bathroom stuff with antimildew, no negative effects. atleast not negative enough to notice.

I wouldnt go out of my way to use it, but if you did, probably ok.

phew great but since im rebuilding it i will use the right stuff this time lol.it worked perfect untill the weak acrilic failed so my design worked but im going back with 1/4 inch glas this time . i am an ex general contractor so i had some 1/4 inch glass just forgot i had till i was looking through my garage the other day lol. i have a 2 car filled till all i have is a path through to the door lol.

GE Silicone 1 FOR WINDOWS AND DOORS. DO NOT use the stuff for bathrooms and make sure it is #1.

Also make sure you clean the surfaces with acohol (no, not the stuff you drink that would be a waste) to get all the oils and dirt off so the silicone can bond well.

Also, silicone will not bond acrylic together. If you ever use acrylic, you have to use a weld-on. Home Depot also sells an "aquarium" silicone from DAP.

ok i got like 6 tubes of aqurium selicone and 2 tubes of locktite(couldnt find weldon anywhere.)but its say good for water ,plastics and acrilics ,im just using it above the waterline for the wetdry part.

Don't even bother with the super glue. Just use the silicone to "wedge" the baffles in place and they'll hold fine. They won't bond, but water pressure will keep them where you put them.

Be careful...many brands/types state on the tube "Not Safe for Aquarium Use". I wouldn't care if it above or below the water line. I also found some of the Loctite glues ineffective --- just my experience. Good luck!

Regarding acrylic...these guys may be a reliable resource.

I have built a few sump/refuge and for years for patching leaks in tanks GE silicone I. !00% silicone. I have always used all glass tanks with either glass or acrylic baffles. (Acrylic much easier to work with than glass) The silicone will hold each in place but will not bond the acrylic to glass just hold it in place. Never had a problem with this. As far as solvent welding acrylic if you can't find Weld On Methalyne Chlotide works great but use in well ventilated area, like outside. It's not flammable but bad to breath.
