Which skimmer would you pick?
Elos NS1000 or the octopus DNW 200 recirculating? 299 brand new for the Octopus, and 300 for the Elos used. The guy selling the Elos only has a 140 posts though. Kind of weary about that.

Whenever my octopus breaks in I'll get a better grasp on it.
The Elos was a monster, but it did have a couple flaws Very sensitive to oil's on skin. I guess thats a good thing because it makes you think twice before putting your hands in the tank. ( Won't skim for about a half hour after you put your hands in. It reacts almost instantly, so at least you know its working... Quick, easy cleaning...breaks down in about 2 minutes Fairly loud Easiest (BY FAR) cup removal to get skimmate out....feels like I need to work out more when tryin got remove the octopus' I'll think of more later... |

Pro's on the Elos cont...
Cheap pump replacement's No need for a needle, or mesh wheel...hence the name "Natural Skimmer" Thre more and more I type, the more I miss it... Cons cont... Parts are near impossible to find the overflow from it can be hellaciously loud it you do not build a downpipe for it does not use US sizes, so any US plumbing parts need ot be modified |

Euro Reef's are hard to find, and expensive. But very good
I would get the guy to go down on the shipping price. It should not cost $50 to ship that elos... |

Easy to find - I carry them
Not as expensive as they used to be. You might be surprised.Go to www.euro-reef.com and browse what you might like. They don't sell through their site, but they have a "buy locally" tab that can help you locate a store local to you. (Or just ask me!) Jenn

I have a euroreef also. I got it on a deal used though.
not sure if I could cough up the price they charge new :/ I just dropped 800$ on 2 new needlewheel pumps for mine. :O I do like that they are using eheim pumps now though. |

Good grief - what model do you have? One of the RC series?
Yes, some of them are still quite pricey but their new VS series for "average" sized tanks is quite affordable. Jenn

Right now all I have on the shelf is a RS180, I think they've done away with that series... it's BIG.

I like my euro reef on my small tank. I have a rs135. The only thing is every other month or so you need to clean the salt creep out of the venturi. They are taller then most new skimmers so you need to make sure you have enough room for them. Simple design that works. I would look at the octopus extreme models as well.

Any venturi will get salt creep in it. At least IME.

yeah, I have the RC500, an older version of it, though now that I seized the pumps and am upgrading, I get to have the new hotness.
paid 500$ for it before, so I cant complain since its like 2500 or 3grand new. it gets the job done though :p |

venturies are easy to clean. stick venturi tube in bowl of water for a few minutes and itll suck the water in. should disolve the salt quick. I give mine a vinegar bath annually for mineral deposits though.
