Although he is not who I voted for because of policy my hats off to him and I am proud to see what this country has become in a relatively short time since the days of civil rights. It is truely a great moment in history. I pray that his leadership can guide us through the hard economic times that are confronting us. He has a hard road to hoe. We are talking about Raj, right? LOL. J/K I congradulate our new president and as a patriot will stand behind him even though I apposed him

Counting the posts until this gets moved into RnC. It'll only take one person that doesn't agree with the original poster, tensions will rise, and we'll end up in the same place we always do...

For the 10 billionth time this year, please leave politics out of these forums - it just doesn't end well.

You didn't really think people would let Obama win without complaining about it, did you?

congrats to Obama! just don't raise my freakin taxes anymore than they already are! Thanks!
This is truly a historical event, and even though I didn't vote for him (neither did GA), you gotta give em credit. The economy tanking sure didn't hurt his cause either!
like I said before, it could be worse, we could be waking up to Hilary!

Hell I do not really care that he won, what I care about is the rioting and acting like complete idiots on my campus (as well as many others).

Got a link? I've been looking for reports of rioting and haven't found any. I'm beginning to wonder if there's any truth to it or if it's just more lies and deceit.

Now Chris, are you sure it's the 10 billionth time??? I went back and counted, and I think it's only been eight billion, five hundred eighty-seven thousand, seven hundred and forty two times!

Sorry, I just had to do it! I appreciate your efforts here. Just had to poke you!

I believe that the "rags to riches" story of american culture is gone. Just so everyone knows, we are beginning an era of our lives where we pay for poor people to continue on welfare, for drug addicts to continue to spend their money on drugs, and a day when you are no longer supporting your family, but also the rest of the country. I mean we might as well all stop paying for our homes now. Obama will save us. Stop paying your bills now. Obama will save us. Go ahead ... Take money from your 401k. Obama will "make sure" we are all "taken care of". Good luck with that.

I also believe that this and many other post not dealing with REEFs or the conservation of reefs should be left out. You won't see any other post besides this one from me about none reef related topics(besides the occational comic relief).

SORRY CHRIS you can go ahead and move this to the RnC forum. I just couldn't resist posting something.

I knew people would want to talk about it - everyone does. I just want to give everyone a heads up that any thread that talks politics will go bad, so expect it to end up in RnC and/or getting modded.

Yes, I'm biting my tounge to keep my own opinions out...

I must agree the American dream is dead, at least the part of it that says "I will work hard and reach my goal"

Bah...

Anyways, I was proud of Obama, but I did get sick of other people in my apartment being completely disrespectful and yelling all night long. I like Obama, I voted for him, but I still have to work in the morning. So I think tonight I am gonna throw a "McCain was a good sport" party and shout Mccain's name for a few hours over loud country music.

The excuses are now erased. Anyone can do anything in this country to achieve a dream and realize a goal. No one can now say "my circumstances won't allow it" or "'the man' is holding me down."

I think it's terrific that we've reached this milestone in history. Anyone can go to college. Anyone can be successful. Anyone can be President. Gone is the cop-out. Our president says "yes, we can" so anyone unemployed or uneducated should be echoing that sentiment and achieving great things.

I'm proud of my country. I disagree with our choice for #44, but I'll still pray for my president that he will take the country in the right direction and preserve our liberties and freedoms. Although he's the most liberal senator we have and was supported and endorsed by the hard left, he did give a lot of lip-service to moderate views during this campaign; I hope he remains fairly center.

I think we have some very expensive days in front of us and that the president will make some costly mistakes, but I don't feel like our country will be destroyed internally like some believe.

God Bless America.

I can't complain- I didn't vote- (McCain didn't lose by one vote, after all- or I'd probably be kicking myself)

But, I agree with Linda, and the dude will be in my prayers.

That pretty much sums it up for me. Why should I work harder to pay more taxes? I have thought a lot recently about working less, spending less, and so paying less taxes. It certainly is not going to help the economy, if everyone that actually has money decides not to spend.

From a fromer President:

You cannot help the poor
by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak
by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity
by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up
by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man
by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage
by taking away men's initiative and Independence.
You cannot help men permanently
by doing for them what they could, and should, do for themselves.

Abraham Lincoln
