Mag drive impellers

Does anyone know if the mag.2 and mag.5 use the same impeller or not? I have both and plan to open it up tonight to check the size but figured I'd asked first while I'm at work to save me the trouble.

I'll check when I get to work but I'm pretty sure that 3 and 5 us the same impeller, but not 2 and 5.

I'm pretty sure Jenn is correct.

Thanks for the info guys. Reason why I ask because my mag 5 is making a lot of noise and a good bit of vibration. I'm thinking that its due to an old impeller. If this is the case and you guys are right about not being able to use the impeller from the mag 2 for the mag 5 then ill have to get a new one.

Jenn, if you could please check on that for me and if I do end up needing a new one then I can stop by your store to pick one up if you have one for a mag 5 in stock. Please let me know. Thank you.

I've got what you need (can mail it to you also if you prefer).

Mag 3 & 5 use the same impeller, and Mag 5 & 7 use the same impeller cover/o-ring.

If your pump is rattling, open it up and take a look at the impeller cover. 9 times out of 10, the impeller cover breaks where the little rubber bushing on the end of the impeller shaft sits, which causes the impeller to "play" and rattle. Left like that, it will kill the impeller eventually, and in worst cases, the pump itself, if the impeller housing on the pump, wears to the point where it's not cylindrical anymore (have seen that...).

I have impeller and impeller cover for Mag 5 here, just let me know.

Jenn

I didn't look at the cover here the bushing sits but I do know one of the screw receivers is broken off and stock to the screw and housing cover.

Hmmm. Impeller cover doesn't come with screws, but somebody probably has some sitting around from a dead pump. I'd check that spot though, that's usually the culprit - the cover, not the impeller.

I was referring to the cover with the intake and exhaust part. It has 4 screws that screw into the housing itself. One of the screw receivers had broken off the housing and got stuck on the screw. I'm not sure if that will affect anything though since the other 3 screws are holding it on pretty good.

What time does your store close today? I'd like to stop by and talk to you about it and maybe about seahorses as well. Since this is all for a seahorse tank.

Thanks for all the help Jenn, the new impeller helped A LOT. The vibration went away but there's still a little bit of noise but I think that's with all the mag drives. It was great meeting you today. Ill have to stop by more often now.

They aren't dead silent. Was the impeller cover cracked?

Nope, the cover looks fine, I compared it to the one I got from you and minus the break at one of the screw, everything looks to be in place. The old impeller was so worn out that the two rubber bushing at both ends of the had worn down to almost half the size as the new one. And one of the bushing had a small dimple in it as well. I'm guessing that's what was causing the vibration. Since the bushing were no longer fitting in the housing and cover snugly, it had a lot if play to make noise and vibrate.

Thanks again for your help Jenn.
