Their awesome, I had an old 90 gallon that I had one in. I bought it at 3 inches and it outgrew the tank in less than a year.

Only the Asian variety is illegal in the US, I believe. I am not exactly sure how CITES works, but if one species of a genus is threatened and protected by CITES, then all of that genus is protected by CITES, I think.

Asian Arrowana are farmed in Asia now and have been for years, so you would think they'd be available in the US now, but I guess there is still at least one Asian species that is threatened, but it is in the same genus as the Asian ones that are now farmed, or the wild population of the farmed species is still threatened, so it stays illegal in the US under CITES.

It is a beautiful fish and very expensive to own one too. I knew a guy that got in lot of troubles and some jail times for importing one to the USA.

Absolutely amazing fish. The Asian species are the ones with the intense Red. I have wanted a Red Dragon for years.
