New BRS reactor inserts
Has anyone swapped to the new BRS inserts for their reactors? I'm intrested in the performance vs the older style. Here is a link for the new ones if you haven't seen them.

I have used the inserts, I like the open design better. This design is good for carbon , but it seem restrictive when I used gfo. The gfo became more grimmy faster than what I used now. Instead of lasting 4-6 monthes, it lasted 6 weeks before it clogged and caused me issue. But it was nice and easy to change.

I don't leave my gfo in for that amount of time. Imo thats a long time to run gfo.

anyone else swapped over to them? They say on the BRS site that it helps the gfo tumble better and also easier to observe it in action. The old ones are kind of frosted and its hard to see in tight spaces. Also I have noticed on my older style inserts that there seems to be a dominant side of the canister that tumbles better. Getting a christmas gift list and want to know if these should be on it.
Thanks for the input and thanks for the compliments guys. |

I have switched over. I like the new design. Gfo and carbon work good with good flow. I am not using filters at all for either. If you leave either running for too long they do seem to get clogged though.

I switched over a couple weeks go as well......nice not to have to use sponges. New or old design, they can both get clogged. The sponges are just one less thing to clean, and the added space lets you put more carbon or GFO in if you need to.
I have found the 'lil screen that goes in before the cover hard to remove sometimes. It has a pretty tight tolerance. |

I've used these containers. My opinion stays where is has always been with these reactors. Don't waste your money.
I replaced my dual with two sea system reactors and haven't looked back. And won't. Btw, the mj1200 doesn't produce enough pressure to keep these reactors unclogged

My two BRS reactors are at about a 4 foot head height, so the MJs would have been useless to me as well.
I have a dedicated small Pan World external that runs my BRS Reactors and calcium reactor. |
