Reputation points, what were they and where did they go?

Hey I've been searching through some older threads and stumbled across people mentioning "Reputation Points". What was this, what was it for, and what happend to it. I looked for it in the menu like the old thread I found said but its not there anymore. Just curious as to what it was because it was before my time here. Also who had the most rep points when it was stopped. If you say Amici/Charlie I'm leavin, How do you get 9000 post I bet you have carpell tunnel got to,lol,jk
