Just putting this out as a feeler, as I'm not sure I can reationalize this... However, in thinking about the things I have lying around the house (I'm not telling you where!) that I could sell to purchase 2 new Vortechs, it struck me that the 1-ounce gold coin I have is hovering around the $850 range and rising in value fast...

Is there anyone out there interested in buying this little treasure? It's a piece of maple leaf boullion from 1985 (queen on one side, leaf on the other). Originally minted as a $50 piece. It's in very good shape besides some light scratches and dings.

Make offer. I may put it on ebay if there's no interest.

Sorry Jesse..I only deal in Spanish Armada Gold Bullion. Sounds like a great piece for anyone and would make a great X-mas gift for those hard to buy for on your list!

I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like a hunk of gold in their stocking

You will get more for the weight in gold as opposed to the coin itself. Go to any jeweler, they should give you market price for it.

Jess, will one ounce be enough to mold into a tooth? I can use a gold tooth. :D Man, is there a place on here that I find all of the smiley codes? I'm tired of using just one kind of smiley face.

Jessie I've sold Canadian Maple Leafs to Bashinskis on Riverside before. They paid market value on gold and Maple Leafs are 23.999 carat gold thats why it dings easily. US gold dollars are only 91% gold thus they don't ding as easily, but the Maple Leaf is shinier.

Kidding aside, I'm always collecting something. Maybe we can work something out. LMK

Rit--Forget a gold tooth, you can get yourself a whole set of fronts out of this baby! Then we can start calling you mac daddy pimp instead of Rit...

But seriously, if you want to try to work something out, I'm gaming for those two vortechs you've got, so how bout it!

Jeff--thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I got some diamond chips laying around. Going to workout real nice with the gold teeth. LOL

I don't know anything about this gold bullion. You have more information on it? Trading sound like a good idea.

I don't know too much about it myself. Basically, it's a very pure (23.999carat), 1-oz. gold coin. to give you an idea of how fast it's increased in value, when I got it a few years back, it was worth about $350. The more the US dollar drops, the higher the value of the gold. It's good news and bad I guess... my dad, who gave it to me when he decided to invest in gold, predicts it will top out around $2000 per ounce in the next few years. I don't think it will be that drastic, but it seems like it will continue to rise, especially in the face of continued fallout from the housing market. He's one of those who believes in an allout crash of the dollar very soon, and thinks that gold will be the only currency to hold value through it. He also lives in an inpenatrable dome in the desert of New Mexico, so take that with a grain of salt...

About the coin specifically, I don't really know much. Just do a google image search for canadian maple leaf gold coins and you'll see a picture of it, and I'm sure be able to find some history. The price of an ounce of gold right now is around $770 it seems, and these maple leafs are going for $805-$830, depending on where you look, so they must have some value over and above the value of the gold itself...

Anyhow, let me know if you really are interested.
