Hi .. we are learning a lot about the new world of saltwater aquariums and have come to the issue of RO/DI and possibly a water control system. We have a 75G RR with sand, 60lbs of live rock, refugium, 13 fish, many snails and crabs and at this point several soft corals.
Do we need an RO/DI unit and what size?
Also, any thoughts on an automatic water contol top-off system?
We will appreciate any information anyone can share with us.
Thanks,
Hopkins Family

Hi, Welcome,
Your questions are common. So i'll try and answer what I can now.
RO/DI is a must as far as i'm concerned. This is not just only for topoff water but for water changes as well. With the size tank you have I'd go for something like a 50GPD. The ARC has a few sponsors that sell RO/DI units. If you have RO/DI questions PM me.
As for automating the top off of evaporated water thats simple. You have a two options. Electronic (many manufacturers JBJ, Tunze, etc....) or float valve. The option is yours.
If you have any further questions pls dont hesitate to contact me directly.
Regards
Simon

A little late here but we are one of the sponsors of ARC and offer a 10% discount to members. Would also be happy to just answers any questions you may have regarding RO/DI systems.

Using RO/DI water is highly recommended for greatest success. Stripping the water of all ions and then mixing your salt can eliminate a lot of unwanted algae problems. Auto top off should be done with the greatest of care and planning to prevent flooding.
