Nominations for the 2008 club officer positions can be submitted from now through the October meeting. Elections will take place at the November meeting.

If youre interested in helping out the club and its direction, volunteering for an officer position is the best way do so. According to the ARC Constitution (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/index.php?page=constitution), the term of office is limited to one year (except the treasurer, who may hold a 2 year position). This is to keep new ideas coming and new people in the driver's seat. This years officers will hold a seat on the Board of Directors until the end of 2008.

The following four positions are open for election (adapted from the By Laws (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/index.php?page=bylaws)):

President
The President shall preside at all meetings, sign all documents, and be a member of all committees.

Vice President
The Vice President shall, in the absence of the President, act as presiding officer. The Vice President shall be a member of all Committees and shall be informed of any business of said Committee so that s/he may present it to the Board in the absence of said Committee Chairperson.

Secretary
It shall be the responsibility of the Secretary to inscribe the proceedings of all meetings and to be prepared to read the specified records when requested. The office requires the maintenance of Club records, except those designated to other officers. When the President and Vice President are absent in any meeting, the Secretary shall preside. The Secretary shall also be responsible for maintaining copies of all correspondence as directed by the Board.

Treasurer
The Treasurer shall keep in order financial records and/or books, tender by check recognized expenses incurred by the Club, and co-sign checks with the President, or one other Board member designated by the Board. The Treasurer is required to present immediately prior to the end of the fiscal year, all financial records to the person specified by the Board of Directors for audit and shall include a written statement of the financial condition of the Club. The Treasurer shall also present a monthly financial report to the Board of Directors and anytime at the request of the President.

Who may become an officer
Only members in good standing who have attended at least four (4) meetings in the current calendar year are eligible for office.

Who may vote
Only members in good standing are entitled to vote at the annual elections as stated under the bylaws of this organization. Commercial, Sponsor, Regular, and Charter members will be sent only one ballot regardless of the number of membership cards issued.

We have a good host of well qualified people running. No shortage of good candidates, especially for this great year with MACNA (and the teen SWU program).

The good news is that this is the most number of candidates in the history of ARC, and it is only September 4th (and more people can still be nominated). Actually, the number of candidates for each post exceeds the number of total candidates for all the positions in almost every year since the ARC was formed. (Does it look like the current officers are having a good time?)

That means a huge people want to get involved, and some will become officers, some committee chairs, and some we be active volunteers. It says a lot about the present state of ARC. Pretty darn cool.

People with multiple nominations may want to tell us what they want to run for, and those that want to decline should do so. Remember, people actually need to be seconded, meet the qualifications, and actually express a desire to complete the duties of the office.

Just a quick note... as far as workload goes, President and Treasurer hold the most weight. A strong VP is encouraged to help take up the slack and a persistant Secretary is required as documentation is very important (and required by the state of Georgia!)
I'm really happy to see that there are so many people willing to take on Officer positions. The November meeting should prove interesting!

If he's interested, I'll second Cameron for President. He's a wealth of knowledge and balanced in his statements.

I'd be honored to serve as secretary of this terrific club. Although I'm fairly new to reefing, I'm not at all new to office administration, having spent several years as a legal assistant, two years as an office manager of a law firm and the last four years as a government administrative specialist.

I'd pledge to be accessible to the members and a heckuva hard worker.

If I'm not voted in as secretary, I'm 110% willing to help whomever ends up in that position (or any position) in any way that I can. Just let me know whatever needs to be done.

I removed the declined candidates to make it easier to view current candidates. We should all want to thank all those people that took the responsibilities of the jobs seriously and declined before being elected. It is an honor to be nominated, and they should all feel great that people feel that way about them, and the ARC membership still will need their help in other capacities, especially with MACNA this year. Remember, BoD meetings are open to everyone, and the more the merrier.

More people can still be nominated. Alan and Chris - please let us know if you want to run for the offices.

Bear in mind, we have not had multiple candidates for any position since at least 2004, and this high number of nominations speaks volumes about the current state of ARC. All candidates not winning the election are going to probably be cojoiled into being committee chairs, etc. There is enough work for everyone. Many hands make light work. Hi all ~

Bit of a late notice, but I need to retract my acceptance for the position of ARC Secretary. Unfortunately, this wonderful hobby has taken over a bit too much of my life and I need to focus on other priorities. I thought about going cold-turkey with this addiction, but I think I'll just try to step waaaaaaay back for awhile.

If it's not too late, I would like to nominate Loren/Seedless Reefer as Secretary. I know he might seem like a bit of a clown to you guys, but this comedian is actually one of the smartest guys I've ever met and a get-it-done kinda guy. He's also had experience in the navy in office administration and he knows computers inside and out. These skills would make him a valuable asset to the club in the position of secretary. I would also be more than willing to help Loren personally throughout the year if he's voted in to this position, thus you'd pretty much be getting two-for-the-price-of-one.

Due to the fact that I have a locale and professional situation that I haven't ruled out changing, given the opportunity, in the next year+, I'm going to have to withdraw from running for treasurer. Moving out of state would leave the club in the lurch when it can least afford to during MACNA year.
