View Full Version : VERY disappointed with glasscages.com
Dakota9 08-10-2007, 11:51 PM I placed my tank order weeks ago, was told that it would be early evening last tuesday i could meet the delivery truck.
Then...... Since I was the only delivery in Atlanta, they bumped me, and put my delivery last, on the drivers way back from florida, and it would be sunday night before I could pick it up. That ruined my plans to have my new tank up and running this weekend, but I went with the flow and said "sure, that's fine".
I got a call this morning (Friday) at 11:00 am from the truck driver who said that he was in Atlanta and I needed to meet him within the hour because he was leaving. I told him I was at work and not only could I not leave work right then, but would never be able to pick up the tank without at least some notice of his arrival. He was over 2 days early and just "thought" I would be available to drive to Lake City (I've heard of it, but I couldn't point in it's general direction if I had to) at a moment's notice in the middle of a work day. He told me that they will be passing back through in a few weeks or so, and I might be able to pick it up then.
I knew when I ordered that I'd have to pick up the tank in some obscure location, I suspected that it would be on a work day, but I never dreamed I'd just get a call out of the blue with a "now or never" approach to deliver the tank. I'm not even asking that they pin point a time, just pick a day and stick to it, as at this rate, I'll never get the tank I've already paid for.
Just venting here, but thinking of just calling them and asking for a refund, being the tank is a standard size, they could easily sell it to someone else, but I think I'll wait the weekend and chill over it a while, then send them an email.
Thanks for letting me vent
ouling 08-10-2007, 11:58 PM they always do that kinda crap. A friend here I know had that same problem. His was 1 day early and a very big tank, they told him 4 different delivery dates, but suddenly call him at work, and expected him to pick it up in 1 hour after they called him.
Juston51 08-11-2007, 8:24 AM Man that sucks! If I were you I would get my money back. What size tank is it?
Dakota9 08-11-2007, 9:14 AM The tank is just a 50g Tall with Euro trim (hard to find locally)
I'm going to email or call Monday and see if I can get this done and over with.
JetChris 08-11-2007, 10:13 AM that sucks, I hope everything works out for you.
I am sorry you are having this bad experience. That is a really crappy way to run a business. I am, however, glad you let us know about it. I will probably steer clear of them in the future.
Victor626nj 08-11-2007, 7:10 PM im pissed about this too i was supppose to get the 30 l from him now im on a search hunt....good luck with them btw
miktrav 08-11-2007, 8:48 PM I think you'll have a hard time getting a refund or any kind of satisfaction from them. I've heard horror stories about that company. I tried to order a hood from them a while back with delivery at one of the shows they attend. I couldn't get them to call me back. After doing a search for them on reefcentral and finding all the negative reviews I figured they had done me a favor by not responding. I hope you have better luck than so many others in getting your issue resolved.
Skriz 08-12-2007, 11:24 AM Sounds like the same type of service as bow valley aquarium in Calgary. They act as though they are doing you a favor by selling you the tank and you should be thankful! what a load of crap! I hope you paid with a credit card so you can dispute the charges.
Simon.Kruger 08-12-2007, 12:07 PM Hi Dakota9,
Heres another story about Glasscages.
I placed my order for a 300Gal Tall on July 20th 2007. Paid for it on the same day. I was told the tank would be ready in 5 weeks. I was happy with that. It is what it is.
About two weeks later (actually Friday August 3rd) I phoned them to find out the exact size of the aquarium. I'm getting a professional canopy and cabinet built out of 100% solid cherry (Thanks Russ Briscoe) and needed to the exact size, so he could start the build. I was expecting +-1/4 inch difference. No biggy right. Well when I called in, the guy told me he couldn't give me the exact measurements. I started querying have the started building my tank and was immediately told that the tank is ready for pick up and that I should come Saturday August 4th to do so. Fortunately I was able to rope a very good friend (Tim Woolston) in to drive to TN to go and pick it up. His truck as well. Couldn't fit it in my Convertible Beemer.
While on the phone I queried the 5 weeks statement and they back tracked and told me that I shouldn't put water in for 5 weeks thats all. I doubted there judgement on that. Needless to say i will wait the 5 weeks.
Needles to say we drove through and picked up my new tank. We arrived on the farm (yes farm) and went in to see them. I was immediately told that the tank was still being siliconed. (Just the top they told me). I could still pick it up however if i waited an hour. While they we finishing off my tank I had the time to review my tanks build quality (98% happy) the other 2% I can hide with the Stand and Canopy. :-) again Russ thank you.
I also had time to review other tanks. needless to say I would not have been happy with them. I saw several 1000Gal tanks that were so bad that I simply wouldn't accept them. I guess I was lucky. Somebody must have been looking out for me. Build quality was definitely in question. They ship approx 100,000 lbs of glass a month. They are busy, no doubt.
My friend who helped me said it perfectly, "Well you got a $1,790 tank, nothing more nothing less, Thats all". I spent 6 hrs the other day just picking off the excess silicon and polishing the glass. I still have yet to install the overflows and drill the tank.
For your knowledge however, the closest quote I got was $6,000 and the most expensive $12,000. $1790 was alot cheaper but would i do it again. NO, NO, and NO.
I'd like to again thank Tim and Russ for their help. Without you guys I wouldn't be able to have this tank.
I hope this helps others.
ouling 08-13-2007, 2:21 AM They cracked my first tank when they shipped it to me. Second tank took me a few hours with a buffer to get the silicon off, and I had to reseal the top of the tank because they did such a terrible job. I guess they were not experienced with rimless tanks.
But like Simon said, their prices cannot be beat by anyone.
Mine was 3 side starphire and no rim, the closest estimate I got was 3 times as much.
I will go with glass cages for the rest of my life.
flyingarmy 08-13-2007, 2:49 PM Sounds like Glasscages in not the way to go if you want a quality tank. Maybe cheap, but when it comes to having a 1000 tank leaking or having to wait up and hurry for delivery....then not really worth the savings! Sorry...hope it turns out for the better!
Cameron 08-13-2007, 8:04 PM This is common from small outfits that get popular too quickly. They have always been flakey, but recently (the last couple years) it seems they have really struggled with customer service and quality control. Still hard to beat the price even if you have to do some extra work and certainly hard to beat if you want it in starphire.
Budsreef 08-13-2007, 8:43 PM I want to get a tank that is 48L 24W and 21H and thought glasscages would be the place to go, but between this thread and one over on Reef Central I don't want to risk it. I'll probably pay a lot more and have to go with one of the standard sizes but will be able to sleep better once I place the order.
slayer 08-13-2007, 9:07 PM dont say i didnt tell you soooo.... i had brought my 300 gallon from them 3 months ago... talk about pulling teeth to get any info from them about delivery times and dates.. one time they didn't realise they put me on hold without the mute on and started to talk crap about me calling... lets just say they got an ear full when they got back on... tank is solid but customer service sucks a** . in the end because they couldnt live up to their delivery date they charged me extra money to have it frieghted via ups to atlanta... go figure??
Dakota9 08-14-2007, 3:33 AM I did charge this tank on the Amex, so if all fails (and hopefully I wont have to go this route) I could attempt a charge back though the CC company.....
After 2 months of AquaTraders jerking me around, that was the only way I got a partial refund from them.....
kwl1763 08-14-2007, 7:35 AM The horror stories on these guys have been out there on these guys long enough that everyone should know to beware. I mean if price is your main issue go for them but realize your rolling the dice on build quality and customer service is bad. You can't complain though, you chose price! As Simon stated when I was haveing my big tank built price was important but not my #1 criteria so I ruled these guys out and I'm glad I did. Their quote was about half of others though! So just realize your getting a super great deal. People who complain about the customer service and silicone, etc should expect it. It's like paying for a night at the Days Inn but expecting the service of the Ritz!
Dakota9 08-14-2007, 12:09 PM Going into the agreement, I understood about the quality issues, and even understood that I'd need to drive to the sticks to pick the tank up.
My only beef with them is the delivery attempt gave me 1 hours notice on the wrong day. Never in any of the feedback did I see that they will call out of the blue 2 days early and pretty much say now or never.
I'm not expecting AGA quailty, but if any future delivery attempt is handled the same, I or most anyone else would never be able to pick up their tank.
