I'd like to learn more about anticipated expenses and planning for MACNA 2008 show. Is is true that the ARC club had to reserve a large number of hotel rooms and pay MACNA a fee to host the show? ouling 08-06-2007, 6:05 PM I want to see the ARC books on how the money is spent. SShindell 08-06-2007, 6:53 PM All BoD meetings are open, as well as the MACNA meetings. We WANT people to be involved, and aware of the expenses/work. The MACNA conference is a big conference, with total intake/output in the six figures. Clubs usually net five figures, so it is a real coup for us to get it. Give Margi or Kevin a call anytime (or come to a meeting) and they will always go over the expenses/payments to everyone's satisfaction. BTW - there have been minimal expenses thus far. MACNA charges the club a fee for each attendee and each exhibitor. It comes out of the registration. The hotel rooms have been negotiated, and will be $119 a night at the Westin. The attendees pay for the rooms, not ARC. Pretty cool - the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere. We based the number of rooms on prior MACNAs, so it is a very conservative estimate. Kevin 08-06-2007, 11:32 PM As the co-chair of the MACNA XX Planning committee and the VP of the Atlanta Reef Club. Let me try to clarify this situation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- For those who aren't aware, MACNA is the Marine Aquarium Conference of North America. It is a conference that is hosted each year by a different reef club. We were lucky enough to be awarded the bid to host the 20th Annual Conference, September 2008. The conference is not a conference of that individual club, it is MASNA's conference (the Marine Aquarium Society of North America) which the Atlanta Reef Club is a member club. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Every club who has ever hosted MACNA has had to reserve a "block of rooms." We did reserve a block of rooms for the conference. None of the monies for the attendee rooms will come out of the MACNA XX budget (seperate budget from the ARC). There will be some rooms that we are required to pay for, these will include our speakers. We have many different sponsorship levels. If you would like more information on these sponsroship levels, please feel free to talk to myself or Margi at the August meeting next week. We do have to pay MASNA for each attendee and each exhibitor booth space. These are the only FEES that we have to pay. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to seek me out at the Meeting on Tuesday. |
