I also have a 29 BC and have been using A and B only. (+ water changes of course) Not sure what chemicals I should get for a 55 gal tank. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Unless you're talking about an SPS grow out tank.....All you really need is water changes..... Nothing more, nothing less....

Can I use regular tap water and prime to start the 30 day cycle? If that could work it would save me a lot of running back and forth to publix for RO water. I would use RO for all water changes but just curious if I can cut a corner for the cycling process.

It might encourage additional algae growth, but other than that, it's fine to start with.

I've started tanks wIth tap and with RO. It seems like every tank I've started with tap, the phosphate is harder too remove, and after it is Undetectable in the water, it is still bound to the rocks and I've fought algae like crazy. When I've started with RO, and hit the ground running with gfo, I only had a small amount of diatom algae.

Hauling water is a pain in the a$$. No doubt about that. To me, algae is a BIGGER pain. I would haul 55g on one day instead of scrubbing algae with a tooth brush for months.
