Is this one of the 250w equivalent units? Miami Dolfan 10-29-2011, 9:50 AM Yep....wanna see pics!! Is this one of the 250w equivalent units? Not sure, but they sure are brighter than the 3-250MH I had before. I'll try to get a pic tonight. Edit: How high did you end up mounting yours? Take some pictures! I have them mounted on a rope and pulley system that I cheated and copied from another post on here and have them about 4-6" over the water. porpoiseaquatics 10-29-2011, 9:57 AM What size tank are they over? I have one coming for my 93 cube and I think I may need a 2nd. PFCDeitz 10-29-2011, 10:01 AM i was at a Lfs yesterday and he had 3 over a 200 gallon tank. i have mine 1" over my tank but was told i should move it up a good bit maybe 6" and i should get better color gnashty 10-29-2011, 10:35 AM I have 3 on my 180 about 6-8" off the water.....they look great Miami Dolfan 10-29-2011, 11:15 AM I have them over a 30" tank. Miami Dolfan 10-29-2011, 10:24 PM Here are some images 33273 33274 The fish are a blur. These are with no optics. Miami Dolfan 10-30-2011, 8:54 PM Looks really good! i love the back Fake rock piece. I think it fake. Thanks. Yeah, the rock is fake, too much for a real one, almost costs 4 times more than this one was. I got it at Kelley's warehouse when it was closing. barry_keith 11-01-2011, 8:50 PM Where did you get your fixtures from? I'm very interested in getting a couple of them. v8fla 11-01-2011, 9:02 PM I'm interested also in where you got them and who modified them.. big_trucks_1985 11-01-2011, 10:02 PM how many k is yours im debating on mine Miami Dolfan 11-01-2011, 10:31 PM I was told that the ratio I have produces 18K big_trucks_1985 11-01-2011, 10:36 PM any par tests yet? cbj25 11-02-2011, 12:37 AM Yep par is not a prob with the units, I saw, if I remember correctly ~180 @ 24" w/ only blues and ~220 with white and blue. ~800 at surface with blue only ~1250 with white and blue. Keep in mind I just drove 9 hours coming back from ga/fla game so not too sure how accurate those numbers are but I think they are good ballparks. My final conclusion was you can grow anything under them, no prob. Great color when i threw it over my Solana to test it. I would agree my units are 18k. I got three to put over my 125 and am very excited about them. big_trucks_1985 11-02-2011, 12:42 AM thanks if you get pics up will you please link me cbj25 11-02-2011, 1:01 AM thanks if you get pics up will you please link me Np, I'll try and remember. Check my build thread in about a week or two and have some pics up, I'll also try and put a fts of my Solana up so you can see corals under them big_trucks_1985 11-02-2011, 1:13 AM thanks alcatoe 11-02-2011, 8:46 AM Where can we purchase these? How much? Can a dimmable driver be added for control by apex controller? JohnIII 11-02-2011, 9:47 AM I'm interested also in where you got them and who modified them.. +1 and what was modified Miami Dolfan 11-02-2011, 10:16 AM I was told that these will be upgradable to dimmable in the near future, but to be honest, I don't think it will be necessary. I don't think I'll be dimming them because I don't see the need to. The blue to white ratio Is perfect for me. PM me if you want the source info. bruce 1 11-02-2011, 10:49 AM I seen these in person and they look nice. I have mine ordered. alcatoe 11-02-2011, 11:09 AM Pm sent. Thanks! Miami Dolfan 11-02-2011, 12:46 PM If I remember correctly, they were modified with a ratio of 35 blue, 17 white and 3 UV. cbj25 11-02-2011, 1:41 PM +1 and what was modified A better way to explain it is that there are many LED manufactures, many of which use the same black box made in china as their "shell". Therefore, configuration of wiring, drivers, heat sinks, optics, etc are all up to the designer of the unit So if someone uses cheap parts and doesnt design everything correctly there could be issues, but that is true with any electronic. As for these LEDs, they were put together with great parts and are quality checked by the designer once they have reached the states. Edit: If I remember correctly, they were modified with a ratio of 35 blue, 17 white and 3 UV. Ahh, yes, the LEDs blue:white:uv are users choice. deepseas89@hotmail.com 11-02-2011, 1:54 PM I see that you're changing over to leds, I'm making that change also after doing alot of resurch. They noted that we should get more spectrum light than metal halides @ a lower wattage for less electrical cost. Miami Dolfan 11-02-2011, 2:05 PM Oddly enough, this set up is omitting a lot brighter lighting than my metal halides did. The only difference is that I had the MH lighting 18" over the water surface compared to 6" with the LEDs. Thanh386 11-02-2011, 2:29 PM Is ur tank fish only? Miami Dolfan 11-02-2011, 2:42 PM No, I have some zoas, some pumping zenia and some starry night. v8fla 11-04-2011, 6:07 AM Do these units use any optics? If so, do you know what they are? For those using them, are you getting any spotlight effect? grouper therapy 11-04-2011, 8:18 AM Do these units use any optics? If so, do you know what they are? For those using them, are you getting any spotlight effect? No optics on mine itsamyheff 11-04-2011, 9:55 AM I changed from 4 mh running radiums to the 18k LED setup. Yes it is much brighter. I miss the shimmer effect that the halides did, but I haven't tried different placements for the LED's yet. The mh's were about 14" above the tank, the LED's are only 4" right now. grouper therapy 11-04-2011, 10:14 AM I changed from 4 mh running radiums to the 18k LED setup. Yes it is much brighter. I miss the shimmer effect that the halides did, but I haven't tried different placements for the LED's yet. The mh's were about 14" above the tank, the LED's are only 4" right now. Interesting I have shimmer. itsamyheff 11-04-2011, 10:19 AM Let me change that. There is a shimmer, but not as much as the halides. How high do you have yours? I got mine, threw them on the tank and went out of town. I haven't got to play with placement yet. grouper therapy 11-04-2011, 10:23 AM Mine are about 6" off the water. You are corrrect that it is different for sure. I'm not sure if it is less or just a tighter shimmer if that makes sense. Miami Dolfan 11-04-2011, 11:06 AM Mine are about 6" off the water. You are corrrect that it is different for sure. I'm not sure if it is less or just a tighter shimmer if that makes sense. I have them installed like this also and do have shimmer. It is a different shimmer than the halides but it's still better in my opinion. The units I have do not have any lenses so there is no spotting anywhere. Miami Dolfan 11-05-2011, 12:31 AM More pics. I need a better camera. tqpolo 11-05-2011, 12:57 AM Your tank is pretty much a FOWLR. Any light will work on this tank. grouper therapy 11-05-2011, 1:23 AM This one isn't same lights on it. jead85 11-05-2011, 7:59 AM These are the sub $200 units right? Miami Dolfan 11-05-2011, 11:17 AM These are the sub $200 units right? Yes. I do have some Zenia and some frags not pictured that I just introduced. I wasn't having much luck with the MH's because of the height I had them at. PFCDeitz 11-05-2011, 12:37 PM I have one over my bc 29 reef. Have Sps and lps. All seem happy and growing. I grow shrooms like wild fire. Sps seems to be doing great. My birdsnest seems to extend alot more and colors up nice cbj25 11-05-2011, 7:46 PM thanks if you get pics up will you please link me here is a link to my build thread, I just threw two of the units on it and have shots of actinic only, white only and both on. Pictures are not the best but you can see that they put off a color http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?p=702279#post702279 Also here is a before and after picture of my Lunar Eclipse palys Pheonix 14k: http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx297/cbj25/IMG_1940.jpg LED w/ only actinic (too blue for my iphone): http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx297/cbj25/007-2.jpg v8fla 12-05-2011, 6:28 AM Any updates on the LED's? What is the name? porpoiseaquatics 12-05-2011, 6:01 PM Any updates on the LED's? SPS/algae growth? Picking up mine this weekend to test, i was just curious if everyone is still happy with them... I'm very pleased with mine. I have seen more growth from my SPS and zoa's since the install about a month or two ago. Colors are great! I'm actually considering adding a 2nd, less powerful unit. gnashty 12-05-2011, 6:27 PM Still Happy here, great growth on SPS!! The increased Algae is a nusiance but I cant blame it all on the light... Miami Dolfan 12-05-2011, 6:39 PM I have 4 and considering adding another one. Islandreef 12-06-2011, 10:40 AM Dang people WHAT IS THE NAME? v8fla 12-06-2011, 11:05 AM Are you looking for the name of the member who gets/modifies them? cbj25 12-06-2011, 11:12 AM Dang people WHAT IS THE NAME? Those LEDs without a name that everyone has. :lol2: PFCDeitz 12-06-2011, 11:25 AM Pm Lilrob Miami Dolfan 01-29-2012, 9:13 PM I never had T5HO's, I used to have 3-250MH and 6-96wPCs. The best part about LED is the power savings and the reduced heat in your tank. |
