What do you mean? It is Auto Focus? ????? I had to stand like 10 feet away from the bee to get it to focus.

forgive me i dont know much about cameras, but is the lense meant for like long distance pictures or close ups aka macros, or portraits, etc.

It's meant for long distance... I have the Nikon D100 (for my wedding photography) and I love it.. the bigger the last number, the further away something can be to be zoomed close. We found our 70-300 lense at Walmart on clearance for $50!! I never find deals like that!
