I didn't want to Hijack the thread in Divers Den to post these. So

Here are pictures from snorkleing just outside my room at Oyster Bay. If you are not staying there, the beach has free access so just go to the beach follow the rocks on the left and you will see more coral and diveristy of fish then any of the "Excursions." PLUS...it's free....

Click on the thumbnails below to goto the photobucket page for higher rez.

Oh and these were taken with an old Canon S330 (digital elph) point and shoot with a waterproof case made by canon for it. No extra lights or strobes. this was in 2 - 10ft water.

Not as much color as I have seen in oyster bay in past dives there. But great pictures. I will tell you, if I see those lobsters there when I dive in about two weeks, I will let you know how they tasted! ;)

How long ago where you there?

I can not wait, it has been too long since I have gone to St. Maarten. This trip is too long overdue. Thanks for the pics to wet my taste buds!

We were there for a week.... I think I could have stayed 2. I really enjoyed the atmosphere on the island. As for color, I didn't color correct any of the photos.

Hey, those lobseters were all hanging out in the same hotel. The picture doesn't do it justice. there were like 6-8 in there. I dive but my wife doesn't yet so I was relagated to snorkeling on this trip. We went to that little key you have to take a ferry to get to on the french side and on 2 snorkel excusions. I don't know if its because of the Huricanes 2 years ago, but I saw very little coral colorful coral anywhere except at Oyster bay. The excursions were disappointing. Since you have already been there, I won't say much more.

Have FUN!

Oh and there is a new restraunt that opend while we were there. If you have been to Oyster Bay, you know about Mom&Pops convinece store on the docks. The same owner opened a small restraunt named BIG FISH right behind the store. The food was EXCELLENT and the prices were better than most. The Seafood wrap is a wonderful lunch.

I threw up my underwater pics here:

and I am going to start a Island picture thread in the photography forum.

I am missing it there already and these pictures are not helping! ;)

The scientific name is Ringourias Onionscalous... ;)

No, to tell you the truth I do not know. I did not see any of them when I was down there... My goess would me a soft coral (like most things down there) or a sponge of some type.

Great pictures! Looks like you had a great time. I went to St Maarten with mom, sis and some family friends back when I was in high school. I really need to get back into diving. :)
