View Full Version : New 14g Biocube Up and Running
redbeanss 07-21-2010, 9:58 AM Here are a few pics of my Biocube. It's still cycling at this time. I think I need to get a Kooralia Nano to move some water around a bit.http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q134/bnhd3/Biocube%20Week%20One/DSCN1306.jpg

EANDREWS 07-21-2010, 10:20 AM Yea I put one rotating and one angled in my 29g, does really well moving the water now..
redbeanss 07-21-2010, 12:05 PM Which is the best Koralia for my 14g. I see there are different ones for the Nanos.
redbeanss 07-21-2010, 12:15 PM I'm looking at the Koralia Nano 425. Do you think that is too much flow? I have an old maxi jet 1200 that I put in there to see how it would do and it just caused a sand storm no matter where I pointed it.

Many folks upgrade their existing pump to the 1200, on your small tank I would just add a Koralia 425 yep, that will do the trick unless you plan on light upgrades and SPS corals then you might look at upgrading the other one too a maxi 900 or something
JennM 07-21-2010, 12:38 PM Even the 240 will move nearly 20 times water volume.
The 240 and 425 are the same size, physically. Just the latter moves more water.

The 425 might be overkill for me. I don't want a sand storm. I think the 240 is plenty.
redbeanss 07-22-2010, 10:45 AM I got the 240 and I'm thinking I should have went with the 425. Oh well. Also it is day 6 of cycling and I have yet to see an ammonia spike. My tests show maybe .25 ppm nitrite though. Any thoughts?
MarkL 07-22-2010, 11:01 AM The 240 was more then enough in my Nanocube 12
EANDREWS 07-22-2010, 2:47 PM Yea I guess its a lot for that small of a nano but it's also has a lot to do with the amount of stock in the tank, obviously if you have any large amount in front of the head then it will damper it down yet provide the take with a great flow to help with filtration and oxygen levels...
carpenter981 10-13-2010, 1:20 PM I like these 14g cubes. Youve got a nice setup cant wait to see it finished

I need to get rid of the GSP as it is rapidly taking over.
toeside 12-28-2010, 9:22 PM Where did you score your PAR38?

I bought it from a guy on nanoreef.com. They are pretty easy to find. There are a lot of places selling them online. Mine originally came from nanotuners.com. I love it. No heat issues at all!

Thanks for the info! I'm hearing all good about the PAR38s...
rizmaher 12-29-2010, 11:43 AM Have you done any modifications in the filtration area?
redbeanss 12-29-2010, 3:07 PM I took out the factory filter, bioballs, and sponge and I just use some polyfil. I put a bag of purigen and chemi-pure in the second and third chamber. I also have a heater in the 1st chamber. I change about 3-4 gallons every week or two. This tank runs like a clock and the parameters stay right on.
rizmaher 12-29-2010, 3:44 PM I only have a heater in the first chamber and also removed the sponge in the third chamber. I left the bio balls in the second chamber. I do a four gallon water change every two to three weeks, little more frequently recently since my tank is a bit over stock. I have to get rid of one fish, but having a tough choice which one (probably my harp tail blenny).
I am trying to figure out a new location for my heater, because I am planning on adding cheato to the first chamber. I have white plastic that I have shaped to fit in the first chamber with all the drains cut out. I have bought a high powered LED light from Ikea that I will mount over the first chamber.
How high is the par38 from the water?
