View Full Version : IO 200 Gallon Box Pallet Purchase-Unofficial Group Buy

Acroholic
07-11-2010, 7:02 PM
Guys,
I am looking to stock up some more on my salt supply. Imagine Ocean has agreed to be the supplier for this Unofficial Group Buy. I am looking for participants who want to combine their money and buy a pallet of Instant Ocean 200 gallon boxes.

Cost Breakdown: A pallet of IO has 40 boxes. Pallet cost from Imagine Ocean is $1250 + tax, or $31.25 per box/tx.
2 boxes $62.50/tx
3 boxes $93.75/tx
4 boxes $125.00/tx
5 boxes $156.25/tx
6 boxes $187.50/tx
10 boxes $312.50/tx

How it will work.

Please post your interest and how many boxes you want. There MUST be a minimum of 40 sold (one pallet)to get this price. Any amount sold over the 40 minimum gets the $31.25 a box price. Do not bother to post unless you know how many boxes you want and are willing to prepay for them prior to pickup. That way Imagine Ocean is not left holding a bunch of unsold salt. I believe you can pay via a Credit Card over the phone or via PayPal if you do not prepay in person.

The minimum number that must be sold to get the good price is 40 boxes (one pallet). At that point all participants will be PM'd as to their amount to be paid to Imagine Ocean. Sales tax is added.

This Unofficial Group buy is open from now through Sunday, July 18. You will have until end of business Sunday, July 18 to pay Imagine Ocean for your boxes of salt. Order should arrive late afternoon Wednesday, July 21, with pickup to be completed by Sunday, July 25.

Pickup location:
Imagine Ocean
111 Mountain Vista Blvd.
Bldg. A, Suite 140
Canton, GA 30115

-There must be 40 boxes (1 pallet) minimum sold to get the price and make this happen.
-any number of boxes sold over 40 units gets the $31.25/tx price
-Participants must prepay by the deadline above. If you commit to buy, follow through or the order does not happen.
-Pick up your salt by the time specified.
-This is Instant Ocean 200 gallon boxes only.

The Formalities out of the way, I am good for 5 boxes. I can go up or down a couple to balance the total to 40.

Please post here what you want. I will keep track of participants and their totals. This is a chance to save a good bit over normal prices. Stock up now.

Thanks.
Dave

If Dave (Acroholic) uses it for his tanks (and you know the corals he has), then it's good enough for me! Why pay more if the contents are virtually the same? Better yet, why not mix two different salts and make it go that much further.

Valid point... but for those without a Ca reactor (like myself), Reef Crystals= less dosing than IO. I don't think it makes that huge of a monetary difference; I bought some from Dave last time he had a bunch... and I'm on the fence about getting in on this one. It's definitely a deal.

I look at it this way........I keep mag chloride, mag sulfate, and calcium chloride on hand. I test regularly, so if I ever have to do a gross magnesium or calcium correction I just do it.

There are others on this board with large systems that use IO, don't be fooled.

Jenn had a great deal on the barrels of Salinity. I like that brand as well because of the guaranteed analysis. Bought one of those because it was a great bargain.

But IMO, for my own purposes, I think of most commercial reef salt as a bulk commodity. Manufacturers can try to differentiate the brands as much as they want thru marketing, but as long as I can correct for calcium and magnesium levels as needed, I don't think it makes a huge difference which brand I use. I have used Salinity, Reef Salt, Instant Ocean, Reef Crystals, D&D, and besides some differences in the amounts needed to get to a SG of 1.025, I have not seen any major impact on my corals by using any over the others. I use a calcium reactor, and if needed, which it rarely is, I can adjust mag and calcium levels whenever I need to.

So I tend to go for the best price on major commercial reef salt brands when it is available, because I don't see much, if any, differences between the major brands. That is just my experience.

I have a correction to post # one.

Any number of boxes sold over 40 units (one pallet) gets the $31.25 a box price.

There has to be one pallet sold minimum (40 boxes) as before, but the good news is that any additional boxes sold past the minimum 40 gets the price, so we are not stuck with having to buy another pallet.

***To recap.....any number of boxes sold past one pallet (40 boxes) gets the sales price***

AS soon as we hit 40 boxes, I will have Jenn PM me totals with tax included and I will send PMs to all the participants, who then need to pay Jenn directly.

I will mark each participant as paid in post #5 as I receive notice of it from Jenn.

Please remember to pay because the buy doesn't happen until all orders are paid for in advance per the guidelines in post #1. All participants must abide by this for the buy to go through. Sorry to be repeating myself, but this unofficial group buy is working on the honor system, so it takes all of us doing our part for it to happen.

Guys,

I might be able to hep you out, but I'm not sure. :confused2:

I have an '06 Jeep Liberty. Does anyone know how much a box weighs? I think they would fit, as I can lay down my back seats. I just wonder if 25 boxes would be too much weight.

Anyone know??

JennM
07-12-2010, 10:08 PM
I think they weigh about 50 lbs apiece (or maybe a bit more). I will check tomorrow to see if there's a weight on the box... I'm sure there must be, I just never looked at it. Having moved a few of those boxes in my day, I can tell you they're heavy! :)

Jenn

Shrimpy Brains
07-12-2010, 10:21 PM
I just looked at a bucket (160g) and it weighs 44.8lbs. So, I would think it would be in the 50lb. range for a box. That would make the total weight about 1250lbs.

I would think my Jeep could handle that!

OH, I know it!! Thing is my door isn't big enough to just wheel a pallet in on a pallet jack and drop it off.

We (ie Scott and me) are going to hate it because we're going to have to help the driver hand-bomb the boxes into the shop.

We still have the key to the empty suite next to ours, so we'll probably put them in there - otherwise nobody would be able to move in here.

That's likely what we'll do. There will be 2 pallets. Or close to 2. We're 7 boxes away from 2 full pallets...

Who wants in on those last 7?? :)

Everyone paid quite promptly....I guess all those threatening PMs worked!!!!!:D

But seriously, anyone else that wants in has until Sunday at 5 PM to contact Jenn and pay for the boxes they want.

John - usually around 2:30 but that can vary. I can ask to get a heads up... not sure if they will but I can ask, but I probably won't know til shortly before he arrives.

Howard - what else are you looking for? :D

LAST CALL! The store is closed, I'm here for a few more minutes doing my closing work.

I don't believe I heard from herpmanjoe... otherwise everyone who spoke up, has paid.

Total boxes ordered, including my non-ARC clients and a couple for my own inventory, comes to 91 boxes. OUTSTANDING!! :yay:

I'm going to be building some muscles :)

Our sincere thanks to all who have participated. This has been one of our best pre-order specials yet!

The salt is on its way and should be here tomorrow. It usually arrives mid-afternoon.

If I could get an idea of when people are picking up, that would be great. Rather than move all 90+ boxes inside (they will be going in the empty suite next door) we may leave some outside in the PM until they are picked up. None will be left out overnight, for obvious reasons.

thanks again Dave, Jenn, and participating members, this was the quickest easiest group buy, I've ever witnessed, you guys need to team up more often, our members combined savings is pretty darn huge

5096 lbs of salt in one go.

Would you like fries with that?

Not looking forward to moving 'em all :) That's why I'm asking about who's picking up and when.

Howard, if it arrives early enough I may send Scott tomorrow, but I'm more or less thinking Thursday. Typically the delivery comes about 2:30-ish, but we might be last given the size of the load this week.

The ARC is collectively buying 2 1/2 tons of salt!

We'll be giving the Georgia Aquarium a run before long! -LOL

Jenn- I'm in Athens tomorrow morning, but I'll come by asap to help with the bag briggade, if possible (wearing cooler clothes though).

Thank you Jenn and Dave!

Well fortunately I still have the keys to the space next door so we have somewhere to put it - it would be wall-to-wall boxes if not for that :)

Yep, that's a lotta salt. When you factor in the Salinity special I ran before that, I've sold over 3 tons of salt in the last month.

Another 15 lb. bag just left the shop a moment ago.

JennM

No worries.

I'm getting a few PMs from folks who say they are picking up their own and someone else's.

I knew of a few of these arrangements before, but it seems there are more.

I will have a sign-off sheet that I'll ask people to sign that they received their salt, and if they are picking up someone else's, I'll ask them to sign for theirs too.

Keeps us all figured out that way.

JennM
07-21-2010, 4:03 PM
LOL! Nope not yet. I called the delivery service about half an hour ago, driver was in Kennesaw and they expected him to be here within the hour from then - that's about half an hour from now (assuming he doesn't hit any snags at any of his other stops).

I had a feeling they'd make my delivery last because of the size of the load. I think that's what may have happened.

Stay tuned...

I'm glad I finally made it over to see your store(it's great, by the way) and to meet you. It was great fun meeting and talking to you and many other arc members. Sorry, we kept you there so late. I'll definitely be back. Especially, now that I realize you are not that far. lol

Oh, and extra thanks to you and Acroholic for putting this together for a great deal on the salt.

Basscyn,

I got your salt. :yay:Will give you a call, when I head your way!

No worries :)

Quite a bit was picked up last night, and we had a nice little group sort of "rotating through" all evening last night. Side bonus was that members got to meet and chat with other members, so more folks can now put faces to names.

Still lots of salt to go. I'm sure we'll see quite a bit more going out the door today. My arms are still feeling a bit "noodly" today :)

Our pleasure, Howard. Wish I could have gone to have a look myself, but somebody had to mind the store :) Another time, perhaps?

Most of the salt has already been picked up. I think we have about 23 boxes left to be picked up, and most have contacted me to say when they'll be picking it up.

Kudos to everyone on this - everybody has done their part and honoured their commitment. Gotta love it when it works!
