Hi there. I am planning on building a stand to hold my 40L frag tank and underneath have 2 compartments. One side holds my electrical equipment from my 120 that comes through the wall and the other side will hold my CA Reactor and CO2 tank.

My question is: What's suitable to use to support everything? Granted a 40L isn't a whole heck of alot of weight. The dimensions of my stand are tentatively: 36"L X 20"W X 30"H. The frag tank dimensions are: 36"L X 18"W X 12"H.

I was thinking about using 2x2's or possibly using 3/4" plywood.

Can anyone help me out here please?

Thanks.

For a 40 GAL tank you are looking at around 340pds just water and add LR/LS so you are looking are supporting max around 400pds. 2X2 would work as long as you supported the side and part of the back with plywood. You'd be surprised how much weight wood stands can hold. Good luck!

Thanks Mark. The tank will remain BB. I think I will go with 6 2x2's and then wrap it in plywood.

Just contemplating using 3/4" vs 1/2" plywood. More than likely, I will probably go with 3/4", just to be safe.

3/4 inch wood will hold it by itself, if you have the proper stuff to build it right. 2x2's will help build a skeleton for the tank, but i wouldnt put much trust in it holding up alot of weight, thin wood like that can bend easily.

easiest route in my opinion would be build a solid structure out of 2x4's and skin it with some thin ply. 1/2 or less is fine since its only for looks, not support. just my 2cents. if you need help, let me know. im not too far from ya.
