View Full Version : Show off you NANO!!
CGill311 04-14-2007, 11:44 PM I'm starting this thread for everyone to show off their NANO tanks. Let's assume NANO means a tank size of 30 gallons or less.
I'd also like everyone to add a brief description of their equipment (lighting, sump, skimmer, etc). Also, say how long the tank has been running.
CGill311 04-14-2007, 11:49 PM I'll go first. Here's my 30 gallon Oceanic cube. It's been running since Nov. 2006. The tank specs are:
250W 10K SE metal halide
15 gallon custom sump
Mag 9.5 return w/SWCD
AquaC Urchin skimmer
jefft 04-14-2007, 11:55 PM 29 gallon, Skilter 400 filter/skimmer, 2 ph, 2 100 watt heaters 35 (+/-)lbs of lr and the staghorn is at jessezm's now.

I like the LR arch. What kelvin rating is that 250W MH? I'm looking to switch from a 10K b/c it's too white/yellow for my tastes.
ubfishy 04-15-2007, 3:11 PM i think that is one w/ 14k hamilton. its was from like a month or so ago... hey chris can i get a pic of inside your stand???
Victor626nj 04-15-2007, 3:44 PM here is the thread to a new tank i got up in running yesterday

My sump is kinda packed so I included a diagram (not to scale) to help. The DIY kalkwasser doser is plumbed in line with the gravity fed ATO.
Xyzpdq0121 04-15-2007, 6:32 PM Chris, wanna frag that green toadstool?!? ;) I have been looking for one and am fixing to order is online in the next week or so! Save me the trouble! :P
BTW Great sump design!!!
clovis829 04-15-2007, 9:02 PM 12g Aquapod. 27w Dual Sunpaq Daylight Lamp, 27w Dual Sunpaq Actinic Lamp, 2 Nocturnal Blue Lunar Lights. ~15-16 lbs LR, Has been running for 2 months.
clovis829 04-15-2007, 9:23 PM Lets try to attach these again...
Nishant3789 04-16-2007, 12:03 AM only a month and a half old. I really need to make up my mind about what im going to put in there.
right now just stock lighting- 2X36 watt PCs one 10000k one actinic....
I plan on upgrading to either a 150 or 70, depending on if i can fit a 150 in there.
50 watt heater- i know on the low side, but my water really doesnt need much heating.
about 20 lbs live rock- a little low as well, but im leaving room for frags, etc
fish: diadema dotty back
Yellow tail damsel
the diadema and most likely the damsel are both probably going to have to come out. kind of sad im fond of boht of them, but the diadema is just a *****.
coral: a gorgonian
orange centered zoos
colt coral (i plan on fragging this soon maybe)
like i said its kind of empty right now
CGill311 04-16-2007, 12:05 AM After owning a nanocube and seeing them all upclose, my personal preference for nano tanks are:
1) Oceanic Biocube
2) Aquapod
3) JBJ Nanocube
I'm not sure how the pricing goes, but Oceanic and Aquapod just seem to have better construction.
Nishant3789 04-16-2007, 12:22 AM i agree with the above. i did alot of research and i chose to go oceanic just because they have such high quality products. theyre not *** "moddable" as the aquapods or nanocubes....yet. i really liek the cadlights setups alot but they are just out of my budget and they dont have the enclosed canopy.

Chemically_Balanced 04-16-2007, 12:55 PM Well I can't let you guys make a desision with out looking at my nano first. It's supposed to be a 32 gallon Finnex M-tank.... I know I know you said 30 or under......but take a look.

wbholwell 04-16-2007, 6:01 PM Amazing tank, Kayla! What's the yellowish thing in near the center?
Kayla, I would love the know the setup details of your tank - lighting, and filtration.
Chemically_Balanced 04-16-2007, 6:20 PM Here's my 26g seahorse... details to come later (if desired)
First desire is to know how you get the colors right? Every time I take a picture all i get is blue no matter how many times I calibrate the white balance....
I think everyone should know they can have a tank and a photo like that when you work at a LFS and have taken some photography classes  I think you should maybe have a disclaimer at the bottom of all the pictures with a little bit of your back ground so we don't get discouraged when our tanks don't turn out as beautiful as yours (there's the compliment):shades:
Nishant3789 04-16-2007, 6:21 PM really nice tank kayla. Im curious, i can see a few tiny branches, but what else do your seahorses hold onto? its a very feminine tank with all that xenia, but i like it all the same.
Perry, is that red monti cap you have in your tank? I need a frag of that!
Chemically_Balanced 04-16-2007, 8:46 PM Perry, is that red monti cap you have in your tank? I need a frag of that!
It's actually more orange then red, but your more then welcome to it. I have a couple good frags right now.

That's my 10 gallon as of yesterday - its 1 month birthday. Lit by a 96 watt coralife PC, has a 3.5 gallon HOB refugium. I go with bare bottom, no protein skimmer, 50% weekly water change. No fish. And I don't feed the tank. I am paranoid about algae problem. No crabs, just 6 snails, 1 cleaner shrimp.
cyberreef 04-26-2007, 8:02 AM JWW, Nice tank
Spike 05-11-2007, 10:47 PM Clown, cleaner shrimp, various softies. The frogspawn is frag from Petland.
Nishant3789 05-11-2007, 11:44 PM Wow that 3 gallon pico is really nice. hows the clown doing in there? got a bigger tank for it when it gets bigger? the frogspawn looks great!
Nishant
clown is doing great, hosting in the hairy mushroom that has split. When he gets too big, we have a couple of more tanks for a potential home at home.

triggerhappy8 05-30-2007, 4:12 PM Ramone, what kind of lighting and filtration do you have on that Picotope? I have the same tank at my desk at work. I run the stock light and filter along with an additional Odyssea 24W light and an AC50. Yours looks great by the way. I need to get a picture on here.

The lighting is what came with tank, a 50/50 only. The hang on filter. with Purigan and filter floss in the filter chamber. My wife religously changes about 3/4 gallon of water every week. Her corals are growing like mad. The frogspawn is huge.
