DMKahlan 04-06-2007, 1:06 AM Those pics are awesome. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see more.
Thanks guys... I thought getting a descent digital SLR would make pic taking easier... :lol2: Boy was I wrong!!!
Big D
Most excellent
Next time your up in Lawrenceville, bring your camera so you can I can get some decent pix on my tank. :D
Maybe I will throw in a free frag or two.
How about a shot of the clam!
Cameron 04-06-2007, 5:53 AM I love looking at your tank and would like to see what is around some of those beautiful corals. Can you get some medium shots maybe 1/10th of your tank per shot? Close enough to see the detail, but not so close as to frame only a single coral... flex some of that new camera muscle.

Thanks Doug... Here's a shot of the big guy. I've got a couple good shots of him, but I didn't want to load up this thread with too many pics just in case someone's on dial-up. You can see the Pocillapora on the left side of him is about ready to frag. :D

Lifestudent 04-06-2007, 10:00 AM David, those are great shots! :kewl: I especially love the one of the birdsnest.
A little plug: James Wiseman will be speaking at SaltWaterU on May 5th on digital photography as well as giving a real hands-on workshop on the subject. Kevin and I both heard him speak at MACNA last year and Kevin participated in his hands-on workshop where he worked with folks one-on-one with great results.
Just thought you'd like to know,
Bob

Thanks Cameron... I'll have to figure out the whole continuous focus thing for those type of pics. Shouldn't take me that long, here's a few more I didn't have time to post last night, getting up at 4AM for work hurts when you've been up till midnight.

Thanks Bob... I'd love to make it to SaltWater U this year, not sure if I will be able to or not though.
David
very nice shots david!
Thanks Lee, now if I could just get the clowns to go in the Anemone. Oh well, only time will tell.
Oh yeah, to let everyone know, the whole picture on the side of the tank with a clown in an Anemone didn't work... I think my clowns were actually laughing at me. All they host is seperate corners of the tank.
David
glxtrix 04-06-2007, 2:09 PM ha, yeah i tried that too awhile back and the clowns took to the toadstool, oh well, close enough I guess. I have to see your tank one of these days David, its come along so well.
Xyzpdq0121 04-12-2007, 1:58 AM David, those are awsome... I need to know what you are doing to get those!!! ;)
Sprayin70 04-12-2007, 2:01 AM Great pics! I also have a garf bonsai it is my fav coral!
glxtrix 04-12-2007, 2:05 AM hey david I'm curious to know how your clams are doing from the pb.
Vettesarebest 04-12-2007, 3:45 AM OMG I love the Bonsai and the Orange Acro! I've never seen those before!
Big D 04-12-2007, 10:32 AM hey david I'm curious to know how your clams are doing from the pb.
:boo: ... Lost them both. I've heard some other folks were having problems with them as well. First inverts I've lost in the tank other than a few snails that didn't right themselves after falling.
David
Big D 04-12-2007, 10:34 AM David, those are awsome... I need to know what you are doing to get those!!! ;)
Thanks Brandon... A lot of it is the new camera. I had a Nikon point and shoot that I always used... it takes great shots, but pails in comparison to a digital SLR.
David
Big D 04-12-2007, 10:54 AM Great pics! I also have a garf bonsai it is my fav coral!
Thanks Alan... I love that little guy too. I've got him about 3 inches from the surface to make sure he has plenty of light. They are such slow growers, I want to give him as much as possible. It's kinda funny looking though, he is the tip of the peak in front of the left overflow. Here's a few shots:
Bonsai

I'm still playing around with the white balance to try to get everything just right as far as color, but this is real close.
David
Big D 04-12-2007, 10:58 AM OMG I love the Bonsai and the Orange Acro! I've never seen those before!
Thanks Bryan... The Bonsai is a Limited Edition that's kinda hard to get ahold of. I picked mine up from Jerry a few weeks back, he's a great guy and is very generous with his frags. I'll let you know when it's time to frag them though, the orange/purple acro should be ready pretty soon.
David
MattTVI 04-12-2007, 11:00 AM David,
Do you have photoshop CS2?

I've got PS 9...

Sometime down the road, you may want to try Nikon Capture NX for your RAW PP work. if you're used to PS though, you may not like how capture works, it's a little counter-intuitive in its workflow from PS. I haven't used PS in ages, so it didn't bother me...

I've got the Nikon PictureProject that came with it, but from what I've heard, it's not that great. I'll have to see what I can find out on the Capture NX, I've heard it's a good piece of software.

David, That would be AWESOME! Lol ill pay for a frag and trade you coral for it. I'm not kidding. I really need something like this to color up my tank.

David,
PictureProject is a useless piece of trash software... :) Capture NX is 100x more powerful. Just make sure, if you get it, that you update to v1.1 after install, they vastly improved the memory management... :)
the best part of capture is that it's around $130.00
look at bhphoto.com or 17photo.com or even adorama.com
all good stores to buy online from,
Matt
glxtrix 04-12-2007, 1:13 PM yeah I asked david cuz I know you got a few of them, interesting huh, mine just kicked the bucket a few days ago, yet my other two are perfectly fine....granted I didnt get them thu the pb tho. Oh well. Man your tank is looking great! Sooo when that yellow mille is ready to be fragged, let me know I have a few things to trade or I can give ya cash. I'm trying to stock up on my milles....they are sweet corals!
Xyzpdq0121 04-12-2007, 8:03 PM David, HWat is red on the right side of the tank... It is striking...
Edit: wait that must be the RBTA... Great color!!!!
Looks like the Bonsai is king of the hill!
I don't think it is going to make in your tank, so I will just take that off your hands before ya kill it..............:D
Whats that acro on the back glass? How did you get it on there?
I like you rock work. The tank looks nice.
wait that must be the RBTA... Great color!!!!
Thanks Brandon, you got it... it's my RBTA that I picked up at Poseidons last year. Just wish I could get the clowns to host it, maybe in time.

Hmmm... Nice try Doug, he seems to be doing OK. ;) The acro on the back is a blue Tort that I picked up from Kzoo. I've got it hanging on there with one of the Frag-Mags I won at the Feb meeting. It's holding good, but I think it's pretty close to the max weight on the magnet. The other one on a magnet is a Monti Peltiformis that's yellow with purple polyps.

George 04-13-2007, 7:28 PM you wouldn't believe how many shots I took to get these pics  .
No, I wouldn't. I borrowed a friend's Rebel XTi and took some beautiful pics of my niece, but almost every shot I took of the tank on every setting I tried looks like hell.
Your pics are fantastic, though. Maybe I'll get the hang of it yet.
