View Full Version : I think I messed up? ATO question
mysterybox 12-10-2009, 12:40 AM OK, so I'm going with an auto top off system.
This one:

I'm not hooking it up to an ro. I want to
A. hook up to a pump like this:
http://www.marinedepot.com/Tom_Aquatics_Aqua_Lifter_Dosing_Pump_Accessories_f or_Aquarium_Overflow_Boxes-Tom%60s_Aquatics-OE1137-FIOFOA-vi.html
or
B. raise my 5-10 gallon container 3 feet off ground and run tube about 8 feet. The sump is about 2 feet high. I guess as long as supply is higher than ATO, I'm fine, correct?
C. exchange it
Thanks!
johnr2604 12-10-2009, 12:56 AM I say C if your not hooking it up to your RODI.
Amici 12-10-2009, 12:58 AM Those are really made for an RODI. I would get a JBJ or Tunze ATO. I plan to get one of the ones you ordered for my RODI container Ralph and then use my JBJ to top off my tank. Its just a matter of finding the money for it. BTW those Aqua lifters wont pump more than 2-3 feet and are about 3 gph.
Rhodan 12-10-2009, 12:59 AM Agreed...No RO, exchange it....
mysterybox 12-10-2009, 1:20 AM ok, maybe not as dumb as I thought I was.
this is where I got it, no mention of RO only that I can see anyway!

I'll call them tomorrow and see what my options are, or just exchange.
maybe go with the Tunze, but it's kinda bulky. I hope they are switching to magnets soon......................
Thanks for the feedback!
DrNecropolis 12-10-2009, 1:23 AM Your welcome! :)

grouper therapy 12-10-2009, 8:15 AM Ralph please post your findings after your conversation with them. The solenoid valve may have a min pressure rating for it to open.
SnowManSnow 12-10-2009, 12:08 PM TUNZE Osmolator is my bid. I've had mine for over a year and a half with ZERO problems. it keeps the level at the exact place you set it at. A little more expensive, but well worth it for such a dependable gadget.
mysterybox 12-10-2009, 2:29 PM I talked to the "owner", and I realize that he's trying to sell stuff, but he said no problem on gravity feed. I really like this unit as it will not clutter. The solenoid works by electricity, so water pressure is not an issue, and that's one less thing that's needs to be plugged in. It's simple.

I agree with this post.
I replaced my burned out JBJ with theirs, works well so far. and I paid about a hundred bucks and I have 2 floats for a 2 level trigger plus a backup emergency float.
I dont trust the toilet balloon valves, they can start to leak over time :/
johnr2604 12-10-2009, 2:46 PM I also agree with the autotopoff.com ATO. Mines been going for almost 2 years with no problems. Its hard to beat for $50 new.
delaneymohr 12-10-2009, 2:56 PM I use this product. Have been since the MACNA in Atlanta.
Just raise your supply above the highest point of the tubing on the level loc and you're good to go.
