I got a bottle of Purple Up. I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this product. There are great reviews of it on Marine Depot.

Cameron 03-20-2007, 12:01 PM Depends on who you ask. From my understanding this is a Ca, Alk, Mag, etc supplement balanced at 7.9ph. Assuming my info is correct, you would be just as good adding in Reef Complete by Seachem which a far more proven product. George 03-20-2007, 12:09 PM Purple Up adds Iodine supplements which I have found to help with coraline growth in the past. Most people don't dose Iodine, so it probably does boost coraline growth. I'd think that an iodine supplement along with Reef Advantage or Reef Complete would be more economical. FutureInterest 03-20-2007, 1:40 PM I wish there was a "purple down" product out there... Scraping this crap off the walls all the time is a pain in the arse. George 03-20-2007, 3:06 PM Optimum Aquarium had a cheapo scraper stick that I use to scrape the sides real easily. It takes standard drugstore double-edged razor blades for refills and has about an 18" handle. I'm sure it can be had elsewhere, but it's the first time I found one that took regular razor blades and had a long handle. Stroid 03-20-2007, 4:20 PM I know Sal had good success with it and he encouraged me to use it if i want more purple. My buddy is using it also and he seems to think it works. Dakota 03-20-2007, 10:06 PM micro aragonite = Sand Be sure you test for calcium, alk, and iodine while you use this. I have heard of people overdosing this without testing and seriously throwing their chemistry out of balance. BTW- a good waterchange schedule should be enough to maintain your iodine level Cameron 03-21-2007, 12:15 AM I wish there was a "purple down" product out there... Mag cleaner with this attached: http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=EB-SA-G&Category_Code= assuming you have a glass aquarium. rgzfly 03-21-2007, 11:27 AM I've used it in the past. Had alright results. I've used several products over the years to keep calcium and alkalinity high. Caribsea makes a good product. I use the arogomite right now, which is similar to purple up and have had amazing coralline growth. I also use reef builder with reef advantage calcium by seachem. The key is to keep alkalinity high and balanced with calcium. Test often, because when alkalinity drops, calcium is not able to be absorbed. I would think using an alkalinity supplement along with a calcium supplement then adding purple up as a supplement a couple times a week. Like I said, this is what works for me. I have a lot of demand with my system, so it takes alot of monitoring and adding different supplements. I've never had just one be enough. Although the arogomite does seem to be a good balanced supplement. Richard washowi 03-21-2007, 12:44 PM I used 2 bottles and it did NOTHING! At least for me....I have too much light for coralline growth. No matter how many bottles I dumped in there, nothing. |
