Ok since my old pic host went down I figured I would just start again.

Tank:
72x36x27 penisula - 3 sides starphire

Filter:
84x24x24 oceanic tank(150g of fuge and 50g of sump)

Lighting :
3x 400w halides in custom luminarc reflectors
4x39w T5HO's overdriven

Flow:
Tunze wavebox
1740 return pump
1" seaswirl on return
Resun15000 pump
Dart Closed loop with 6 eductors

Water storage:
two 275g storage tanks

And more stuff I cant remember that will pop up along the way.

Here is what I have so far.

Storage tanks. Hmm, they wont fit. Good thing i have a sawzal:D
http://i964.photobucket.com/albums/ae126/Enderg60/Tank%20Progress/IMG_3686Large.jpg

Mr. Grouper Therapy was kind enough to donate this wonderful leaking oceanic 200g, and a broken glass cages 120 to the cause. After stripping it and beating the hell out of the 120 we had some baffels.
http://i964.photobucket.com/albums/ae126/Enderg60/Tank%20Progress/IMG_3759Large.jpg

A bit of silicon and we get a 150g fuge, and 50g sump with 2" drains and 3/4" emergency overflows

http://i964.photobucket.com/albums/ae126/Enderg60/Tank%20Progress/IMG_3992Large.jpg

I had 5 dedicated circuits run for the tank alone, I will be wiring these all through the AC3 by having each outlet of 2 DC-8s run to a relay so each switched channel will be able to handle up to 20amps.

http://i964.photobucket.com/albums/ae126/Enderg60/Tank%20Progress/IMG_5331Large.jpg

There will be about 40 outlets for the system below the main tank and around the sump room. Wiring will not be fun.

And after a LOOONG wait the tank is in the house! The stand is just a frame for now, I will be skinning it in very nice wood down the road.

Very nice. I always enjoy seeing what everyone else is doing. Is that pond foam over pvc mixed in with the rock?

yup. I wanted minimal rockwork, but also wanted a nice closed loop that was hidden. Also wanted to do a free standing arm for a while and thats what happened.

The pond foam actually expanded quite a bit more then I thought it would, but overall it came out nicely. Few more tweeks and it will be done. Plus the stuff works great as glue!

I like it. I might have to incorporate your help and experience next spring when I try my hand at it. I was going to do a agrocrete type deal with dry rock but I think I like the foam better. It'll look more like one giant piece once it's covered in coraline.

Looking great! Question who made the display tank?

EnderG60
11-01-2009, 8:19 PM
Yeah I was going to do the agrocrete, but its a pain in the butt and waiting a month or more to cure would suck. So I just got 150lbs of lace rock and a few others I had and did that. No curing, no nothing. Im just going to run it in fresh water for a few days to rinse it all off and let whatever is on the rocks leach out.

Plus the pond foam is safe to use right away and wont break down over time like great stuff. Its just a bit of a pain to get on the PVC since it doesnt like to stick to smooth surfaces.

do you think scuffing the surface with sand paper would help or still to smooth?

Have you considered going through the drywall and then through the floor to save your hardwoods? Works great and if there is a "Mrs.", this will make her happy. Drywall is much easier to fix. :)

Glory of being single:D But there is no room to do it in the wall anyway. Im going to cut a hole the size of an air vent in the floor, so when I ever move I can just stick a false vent there.

And no sanding would not help, needs to be a very rough surface.

we have 3 drain lines(one full syphon, one backup, one emergency), one return line, the close loop lines to the dart, and a drain line to the driveway for well anything i want to drain off.

piping through the floor, and the dart for the closed loop

Ok time for a few updates

Almost done with the plumbing, just gata rearrange the frag/skimmer/UV piping one more time:doh:

Also just about have all the wiring designed for the controller and hopefully will have it running before it starts to get hot out.

Lost some fish and corals as things are still settling down from startup, but things are really going now. Coraline is really taking off now. Added some corals(thanks to Keen Reef, warehouse aquarium, and most of all he who shall not be named)

But a very special thanks to those who were kind enough to give me some frags after hearing about my crash. You know who you are, and if you see anything you would like a frag of just say the word!

Derek, your stuff is doing great! Whenever your ready for it, let me know man.

But enough of that, here are some update pics.

Wiring diagram is finally done. Since I ran out of chanels on the AC3 I will have to wire up the continuous water change system later, but that will be easy enough since its just 3 wires.

Ill be rather impressed if anyone can actually follow all that :)

Wiring will start next week, just have to send two of the DC-8's back for repair and get a few more relays.

Then I just have to finish the skimmer and then I should be able to finally start work on the stand and canopy.

You might as well install a super high speed KW meter for the power company.

EnderG60
04-21-2010, 9:44 AM
Me na, thats for the electrician so i can make sure he does it right :)

Plus very little of that stuff is ever running all the time. Once I get the controller running to meter the heaters and fans it will be a lot more efficient.

Hell the heaters were about 70% of the power usage for the tank this winter.

Everything is still running nicely. Lost a few things fish to a alk overdose while I was out of town(thanks dad!)

The electrician doing the wiring is lazy and worthless so he got fired and new guy is starting soon. Hopefully then I can get the AC3 stuff all hooked up and running.

Ill shoot some new pics this weekend.

looked like you had another rock with a similar hodgepodge of zoas on it (further up in the pictures)

I LOVE that look... I saw where a guy did that with some monti's once.. (looked like he cut them so they matched up perfectly as frags.. when they grew out (probably over a cpl years) they all held their coloring.. it looked like an orange/green/purpleish pinwheel spinning..

I've done it once, I put 3 different montis on a rock.. 5 weeks later.. they all looked the same color.. :( (fragging fail)

on a side note.. I'd LOVE to have a peninsula tank like that.. i think they are awesome looking..

Yup bachelor pad :)

the few rocks I have like that, are just like I said. One starts to take over and chokes the other out. I lost all my orange crush zoas to the nuclear greens like that :(

The rock I put all the encrusting monti's on is coming along nicely though. So far only the rainbow and purple have touched and they have a small dead zone where they meet.

The only thing Ive seen that really works like that is plating monti's

Something happened about 2 months ago which I still cant figure out, which lead to me loosing alot of SPS and over the past few weeks Ive been loosing LPS to STN and I cant for the life of me figure out whats happening.

Welp, The tank has totally crashed now.

I have 3 clowns, 3 chromis, 2 engineer gobies and 5 small coral frags that seem to have made it.

... Wth? Last time I saw your tank it was looking gorgeous?

EnderG60
01-14-2012, 3:39 PM
Started about a year ago with a sick powder blue tang my ex GF got me as a surprise. It infected the tank with ich and some bacterial infection killing over 40 fish. That caused some kind of imbalance and corals started dieing slowly.

After that every 2-3 months a few more fish would go missing and a few more corals would die.

After changing my dosing, filtration, lighting, RO filter, salt brand, addative brands, UV, and a bunch of other things it simply wouldnt stop.

Well 3 weeks ago I lost a perfectly healthy achilles tang and some wrasses, which started everything going again and I got fed up and ripped it all down.

Of the few corals left barely any made it through a treatment where the heater malfunctioned and I came back to a 95 degree soup of coral.

And last night all the rest of my tangs and anthias died in quarantine.

Im now in the process of over killing every last living thing in the system before it gets set back up.

End of the day I still have no clue what caused the corals to die or why it happened in cycles like that.

Sorry to hear about your crash.

Sometimes I think there isn't much that is more cruel then a reeftank. It seems regardless of how careful or thoughtful the owner is...it's just a matter of time until "the crash" occurs. It almost like once the balance gets out of wack, there isn't much to do but watch the hard work be erased. Good to hear it sounds like you plan on wiping the slate and starting up again! Just remember what you loved about reefing and move forward.
