Due to security and performance updates, and the ability to be able to add some new site features, I need to update the vBulletin software to the latest version. Because there's some customization done throughout the site, this isn't a straightforward upgrade, so I'm blocking out some time to work on the site Thursday night.

Note that Thursday evening, from 5pm to midnight, the site will be offline. It may be back up before midnight, but I want to allocate the time, just in case I run into problems.

Yes, everything is backed up, so if worst comes to worst, I can revert to our current software. Nothing will be lost in the conversion.

For those interested, we'll be upgrading from vBulletin 3.5.3 to 3.6.4. This will allow me to install an integrated pager / IM type system, an integrated wiki-type system, and some other modifications that I've wanted to install but haven't been able to.

Well, finally! Its about time! I was wondering when you were gonna do that!!

(I have no idea what all that means).

The IM system would allow you to chat to other people who are currently online, but it'd happen all through the forums, and no private information would be exchanged. It's kinda like instant PM. I personally don't see much value, but it's been requested several times.

The wiki system would be similar to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page), in that articles can be posted with histories, etc, but be managed just like everything else within the ARC site- same user names, look and feel, etc. I'm hoping that we can setup a database of information - all about skimmers, lights, inverts, pumps etc, etc.

5pm to 12 am!!!! What ever happen to those days when Net Admins did server maintenance at 3am? I'm kidding. They are still here and I'm a recent participant in one of those early morning projects.

Heh. They still exist. Last I checked, they get paid for their time, too... :)

Hey Chris, I have a deal for you. Since I still dont have a clue as to what you are talking about, you take care of this computer nonsense, and in exchange, I wont post anything about software or programs, or whatever.

Oh, and you give me your NSX.

The upgrade is complete - everything should be working, but if not, please let me know here.

You shouldn't notice anything different for now, aside from the site being a little faster.

That was pretty quick. Are you adding the new features today or another time?

Chris did you get that Instant Messenging thing uploaded?

Just wondering, b/c I looked around a bit and couldn't find anything about it.

Thanks.

One thing at a time guys - Last night's upgrade affected about 60 different custom things throughout the site, and took several days of prep work to make sure all the existing stuff is still working. I don't want to install anything new for at least a day or two.

I didn't notice the multi-quote option on the replies now.

Mind listing the new options, so we don't have to find them ourselves?

I have no idea what the new options are. I needed the database and code to be a newer version for some other things. Look around and see what you can find.

If you'd really like to know, you can browse this forum (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1), and look at all release notes between 3.5.4 and 3.6.5.
