After months of learning all there is to know about salt water aquariums and tolerating the numerous hours spent online by my husband I have come to the conclusion that we the wives/girlfriends need a place chat. I have met so many woman who are developing a love for the hobby as I have and could probably use a place to chat or even vent about the many frustrations of being in love with someone who is in love with his aquarium. I have become so ingulfed in the hobby, myself, that it would be nice to be able to chat with other women who share the same affection for their tanks. That being said, women, use this thread as you wish. I think it is due time we get a thread on the ARC forums. Think of it as a support group for the reef wives!! :)

Thinking about it do we really want our significant others getting together and figuring stuff out?

BTW, I am NOT a nerd. I am a geek. I do not want to be lumped in with accountants and the application support specialists. ;)

don't leave out the engineers

Engineers are actually a hybrid nerd/geek... a gerd if you will.

A "dork" is actually a whale penis. Of course you would have to be a nerd to know that...

Hmm... so I'm an engineer married to an accountant. What does that make me- some kind of super-gerd?

The reason I posted that is I'm a reef GEEK and computer GEEK, but my wife is an engineer and states she is a NERD

Hmm... so I'm an engineer married to an accountant. What does that make me- some kind of super-gerd? :unsure:I don't think so as you can only be so nerdy or geeky. Now if you have a giant satellite dish that can pick up space radio waves in your backyard you probably are a super-geek. If you do trig math for fun, super nerd. If you do both, you are a super-gerd. However, I think the universe might collapse into itself if there was ever a truly super-gerd or maybe its more than one in the same place at the same time. I can't remember.

The reason I posted that is I'm a reef GEEK and computer GEEK, but my wife is an engineer and states she is a NERD

Engineers can go either way... they are bi, but make no mistake about it she is a gerd even if she chooses to put herself in the nerd category.

+1

At least with the Georgia Aquarium in town, I don't have to field nearly as many "You have a what?" questions when the subject of hobbies comes up. Now it's cool to be a reef geek.

Now THAT is FUNNY, I don't care who you are! :D

My wife called me a nerd yesterday at The Fish Sore and More. I told here the ARC meeting was this Tuesday and she said, "oh, your getting together with your nerdy friends". I said, " I resemble that remark!" :tongue2:

Ya, don't let her fool ya! She is just as much of a whale penis as the rest of us!!!

I am all for the idea of letting the girls have their time so we can talk about fish stuff, make trips to Cap Bay, and buy things without them knowing!

Hmmm...what about those of us who are geeky all by ourselves, sans husband/boyfriend? Is there a "single girl with a fish fetish" club???

The anenome looks great. Sadly, he looks much happier in your tank than he was in ours. Best of luck with him, hopefully he splits for you (if you want him to, of course).

Stroid
03-13-2007, 11:39 AM
he gives me the impression that he is going to split because you can kinda see where you think it will split. But I just hope he is happy I dont really care if he splits or not but if he does i wont complain lol.

Reefwife
03-13-2007, 12:00 PM
Well, he definately looks happy, but be prepared, because if he does go to split he may move. You just want to be sure to protect the rest of coral.

Stroid
03-13-2007, 12:03 PM
he actually did move and is sorta hidding right now under a ledge but he is open and spread out under the ledge...maybe a split is coming we will see

Reefwife
03-13-2007, 12:04 PM
Possibly, he will probably do at night. We wished we coulda have stayed up late enough to watch the miracle. I think it would have been cool to see him split.

That would be great! We would love to see pictures. Thanks for keeping us up to date. We like to keep up with everything. Everything we have let go of from our tank were special to us for one reason or another and it is good to hear that they are doing well.

I absolutely love it!!!thats what a good husband does for his wife  get her hooked to his addiction (cause really thats what it is lol)...but yeah my ex-gf just thought I was crazy she never got into it but now she sees my tanks and considers it

I don't understand how any person could not love the hobby. To tell you the truth, I didn't know ANYTHING about keeping fish, fresh or salt. When we set up our 40 gallon fresh (which gave Brandon the itch) I thought you just threw the fish in there... sink or swim. I guess that explains why I could never keep my goldfish alive as a child. :) Now that I have learned so much (and continue to learn) I am completely involved. I can't walk by our tank without stopping to look... seeing what new things have popped up or how everything is doing. It has truelly became an addiction for me as well. I was hoping to find more women that felt the same way... but oh well!
