That sucks Allan! Good thing criminals are usually idiots and will eventually slip up and get caught. What kind of equipment should we be on the lookout for someone with little to no reef experience getting rid of?

Allan, was your alarm set? I know that crooks cut the phone lines to prevent the alarm from calling the monitoring center, but I am not sure if there are lines that can be cut to prevent the alarm from sounding. Do you have camera's in the store?

I am very sorry for the break in and hope they can find the crooks. If you need any help please feel free to PM me, I am home most of the day with nothing planned.

I think the best thing is to list your Reef Losses so we can see if someone is selling them and let you know.

Allan,
I am so sorry. I will deifinitely keep my eye out for ads on CL and even here. A list of reef supplies stolen would be good for reference, maybe?

That really stinks, Allan.

Unfortunately it has happened over the years. About 9 years ago, a store in metro was broken into, and their systems were soaped - AFTER some high-dollar livestock was removed.

I don't know if anyone was ever caught on that one.

A few years ago, another store in the same area, was robbed at gunpoint. Nobody was hurt, but it sure did rattle the folks working there.

Sign of the times, I'm afraid.

I've even had a couple of incidences of shoplifting - which really stinks, because we know everybody's name and stuff. So familiarity doesn't dissuade people from stealing.

I hope the police catch the perps - glad you and yours are safe - stuff is stuff - an inconvenience for sure, but replaceable. People aren't.

A lot of alarm companies offer cell guard as a backup against getting lines cut.

Sorry to hear about the break in. Was it just dry goods or livestock as well?

2 houses in our subdivision were robbed this week. Looks like folks are getting pretty desperate.

Im not certain that castle doctrine applies to commercial property... so unless they are armed, you may not be in the clear on that. the NRA or lawyer types can comment on that further. wouldnt apply for the CCW till you get a definitive answer.

there is a service called Laptop LoJack but I'm not sure how it works (i believe it functions through wi-fi connections... )

I believe breaching your business entrance you do have to be provoked with or at least see a weapon. Your home is open season on forced entry

x a million on posting what was taken. I'll keep an eye out for it being sold on the internet. Karma will get the person/persons in the long run....like in the form of butt canser.

I had to put the Laptop Lojack on my boss's computer and it is program that you have to install and activate from the laptop. i don't think that will help now that they are gone but post a list and we will keep an eye out.

Sorry for you loss.

Hi Allan
I am sorry for the loss. It is shameful and terrible for someone to do such a thing. Marine fish market is small. We will help you to see anyone selling your stuffs. Give us the list of what stolen out of your store Alan.

posting about killing people and posting about self defence are two differnant things.

I don't care how you want to justify it. It's inappropriate for these forums.

Wow. Condolences on the break-in and hopes that the low life (or lives) gets caught. It just doesn't seem right to rob a fish store.

its not right to rob anybody. if you cant afford it or cant barter for it, then you dont need it. my opinion of thieves is for this forum like mojo said.

Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times. That doesn't excuse it, it's just a fact.

Something like this hits very close to home. Fortunately, Allan has many pairs of eyes watching out for him now - I hope he posts a list of things he knows that were stolen so we can all keep a watchful eye, and hopefully help catch the dirtbag(s) that did this.

Well aware of the fact that it is not right to rob anybody. What I meant is that there's something innocuous about fish stores. There's no reason to rob anybody obviously, just makes it feel morally worse because of the type of business that was targeted.

i guess i can kinda feel where your coming from.
this is a business where i think most owners are in it for the love of the hobby not to make a small mint.

I am hoping that Allan responds back to this thread. I am hoping that the crooks did not damage any of the livestock or tanks. Taking the register and his laptops is bad enough. I also hope that he didn't have his passwords on his laptops saved, if he did the crooks may come across this forum.

Allan, we would love to hear from you.

Agreed. If I were going to rob a store, I would not think of a Fish Store as a primary target.

Allan,

Once again very sorry to hear, please give us a list of items so we know what too look for on CL and other forums of people selling "hott" items. Highly recommend the CCW it is cheap, but very worth it if you have weapons. Definitely check on the laws about perps entering store and such. Once again very sorry and good luck finding them.
