View Full Version : Vortech MP10
jcusmarine 09-26-2009, 11:03 AM First impression - amazed!
The low profile 2 inch by 1.5" wetside is well suited to a Nano and takes up very little space. Build quality is great (so it freakin' should be - $$$) and it produces very little noise, even at full power.
The MP10 pushes a nice broad flow and the pre-programmed Vortech modes produce constant flow, random flow, short pulse modes for producing waves and a long pulse mode for producing gyre flow. There is also a feed mode to slow down the MP10 for 10 mins while feeding.
I have selected random flow (reef crest mode) for now and feel that is the best selection for my SPS. I may experiment further down the road.
With all that said, I would recommend this product. Many of us reefers have realized how important proper flow is in our aquariums and this is a sure fire way to produce it. The MP10 replaced and outperforms the two koralias and Maxi-Jet that barely scratched the surface previously....enough said - worth every penny IMO.
Hope this helps someone and happy reefing!

josborne1310 09-26-2009, 11:35 AM Thanks for posting the good review we are talking about buy8ing one and that just helped make up our minds.
jcusmarine 09-26-2009, 5:22 PM ^Thanks and most welcome.
tqpolo 04-05-2010, 7:40 PM I still don't think they worth the money but they are pretty awesome.
@jcusmarine I just bought mine and have had nothing but great results. Using it on a custom 25g tank that is 36"x12"x12". Its a zoa only tank so it is perfect. Using the reef crest as well. Luckily I bought mine used but looking for an MP40 also, hopefully used as well.
NanoNano 04-05-2010, 8:14 PM I want one so badly.....

Haha You had your chance man, you should of said screw you and said i couldn't have it and bought it :P but I am glad you didn't cuz now I want to buy another one, MP40. lol
grouper therapy 04-05-2010, 11:27 PM Are you only going with one? $219 is getting more reasonable. I wonder why the mp 40 is twice as much. Is there a big differences in their features?

no idea. good question though.
bdesper311 04-05-2010, 11:29 PM All I can say is that I have the mp10 in a 39 gallon cadlight tank and it is more than enough flow for all my sps... I cannot imagine the amount of flow the mp40 would produce on 100%

I had to curb spending for a bit. I am out of control.

I have to agree here. This hobby is expensive enough already. With as great as I think they are, and as much as I want one, I just can't justify spending $200+ on a powerhead. I can understand for other types of equipment, but I'd rather save my money here.
ckreef 04-06-2010, 10:14 AM I think the real advantage comes from the large flow rating and the extremely small intank foot print. For some people and some setups haveing mutiple powerheads in the tank is just not acceptable.
I am about to purchase a mp10 for a 9g CAD (tank only) setup. I have a low flow sump/refugium and no equipment (not even return nozzels) are in the tank. All my intank flow will come from the mp10 and I didn't want to destroy the nice clean intank look by haveing mutiple (larger) powerheads.
Also my setup is almost dead quiet at the moment. I hope the mp10 is as quiet as everyone reports as the mp10 will be the only piece of equipment that will have any noticable sound.

This^
My 2 Koralia 1's look huge in this tank. They dominate it. I already have an in and out with a power head for my HOB Fuge, I need to minimize all this equipment dominating my tank.

Is it possible to locate the powerhead for the fuge inside the overflow box (if you have one, don't know if you do) as this would help hide it?

Thanks for the idea AU. My tank is just a cheap square 20g High with no overflow.
Schwa6970 05-31-2010, 10:36 AM Is it just me or does anyone else find the driver boxes for these vortechs really cheesy the new ones are so much nicer from what I understand but the buttons and build quality of the older ones IMO is real cheap and for what they charge for them they should feel nice and solid . MY MP20s wires were pulled right out of the insulation boot on the box when I got mine. I fixed it but give me a break 300.00 for a **** pump and they cant fix a known problem like that. I am planning on upgrading my MP20 to a 40 wireless with the new ecosmart driver . It better be alot better build or my days with ecotech are over. I will hook up a couple Sicce voyagers to a wave maker and be done with it.
