The Atlanta Reef Club is very proud to present Noel Curry for our September meeting. Noel will giving a presentation entitled "Eliminating Parasites and Pests from your Aquarium". As one of the country's most reknown captive breeders and propogators, as well as a very seasoned and versed professional aquarist, Noel will discuss methods and treatments for many of the pests and problems that plague our aquariums. From Aiptasia anemones, to Valonia bubble algae, Noel will discuss methods and techniques for adequate removal.
Using only artificial lighting and saltwater, this stunning menagerie of farm-raised corals at Scientific Coral has been built up over the past 19 years by the Founder and current Director of Propagation, Noel Curry. It currently includes more than 300 different species of hard and soft corals.
Scientific Coral claims that their farm-raised corals are actually superior to wild caught corals in many ways. Wild corals often come with unwanted parasites and diseases which can quickly overwhelm an aquarium. Captive-bred corals live all of their lives in quarantine, and have a minimal chance of spreading diseases or parasites when transferred to other tanks. Coral farms such as Scientific Coral choose only the brightest colors and hardiest corals to propagate, since it involves a considerable amount of time and space to reproduce and grow out corals.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 7 PM. The meeting will be held at Steve Shindell's office space.
