Nice, Matt!

We are going to set up an "encyclopedia-type" resource for newbies at some point in the near future. It will include fish and invert ID/Care. If you're interested, we may appreciate using a few of your photos.

Common Name(s): Lawnmower Blenny
Scientific Name: Salarius Faciatus
Reef Safe: Yes, mostly
Diet: Omnivore (Herbivore)
Level of Care: Easy

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c129/MattTVI/Saltwater/LMB-Small.jpg

There are some reports of various Blenny's biting clam mantles, thus the "Yes, mostly" qualifier on the Reef Safe section. In 99% of cases, you are most likely fine introducing this creature to your reef tank. This fish will readily eat certain types of algae in aquaria but may develope a taste for "fish food." It is recommended that if insufficient microalgae exists for its diet that one suppliments its diet with nori or seaweed.

Common Name(s): Kaudern or Bangaii Cardinal
Scientific Name: Pterapogon kauderni
Reef Safe: Yes
Diet: Omnivore
Level of Care: Easy

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c129/MattTVI/Saltwater/KaudCard.jpg

The bangaii Cardinal is very slow moving and peaceful fish. A male may be intolerant of other males in the same tank resulting in a lot of infighting. Bangaii's are generally hardy, however, they may have trouble getting food in a tank with aggressive, fast moving tank mates.

For a clown, the most intersting thing is hosting in an anemone. For bangai cardinals, the most interesting thing is they are mouth breeders and the male carry the eggs for 21 days before they hatch. Just my 2 cents to add.

What I would like is a thread like this for corals and fish/inverts that list relative information without everyone telling how good the picture is. When you have to go through dozens of "nice" it makes the thread inconvenient for research. A reference site so us newbie’s can see what these corals, fish, and inverts look like and how to maintain them. Maybe submit the pictures to a club officer and they'll have it posted to the/a reference thread. Now if your posting a picture to just show off your stuff that's great! I would just like a "this is what this looks like and how you maintain it" site.

I believe our website admin will be adding a fish/invert/coral reference feature to this site in the future. The purpose of this thread is to begin collecting data for that feature.

I wasn't trying to beat anybody up. I just know I've seen this happen on other sites and even this one, whenever anyone starts showing pictures for reference they get lots of "nice pictures" and you end up scanning everyone of them making sure your not missing pertinent information. I usually go to online stores looking at pictures to see what things look like, but the pictures our members post usually are better and it's nice to see what others are doing. I hope to post some "nice pictures" myself soon, I have a Canon Digital Rebel with a 100mm 2.8 macro lens and when my tank is a little more established I'll post some. Jeff

no problems jeff, i believe this thread is just to consolidate as much information as possible. then the mod(s) will make a seperate section with information on individual species.

the format i suggested would follow something like this:
http://www.aquahobby.com/e_marine.php

they may come up with something different/better though... :)

That's exactly what I was looking for. I'm a newby and haven't found all the different sites like aquahobby.com and I hope we can do something like that. Also those are "nice pictures" lol

We're about to have our own Wikipedia-like system completely integrated into the forums (same look/feel, users, linked discussions, etc). The code is already in place and working. I'm getting some initial documents in place to start things out.

Matt- if you'd like to help out (and it'd be certainly appreciated), please send me a PM.
