How did you wrap the steel frames? Would love to see some picture of before (just the frame) and after (wrapped / covered / etc).

I am trying to see how clean it looks vs. standard furniture grade stands.

Thanks!

I never quite finished mine, but it'll still give you an idea:

And one with the "doors" up. Operated by linear actuators:

That looks nice Raj. So you built a 2x4 frame around the metal stand then covered that. I'll buy you lunch one day if I can pick your brain about the acuators. I hadn't thought about have the entire panel slide up but that would work for my new application as well.

Thanks for the reply, there aren't too many large tank / steel stand combos on ARC. I wonder what David T ended up covering his stand with.

You're welcome!

Ooh lunch? I'd better pick an awesome restaurant then! :)

I covered the steel with 1x4's. You don't need the mass of the 2x4's. I essentially used the wood to square things up perfectly and to make screwing in everything else easier & provide a more flush fit. I toyed around with traditional cabinets, but they were far too restrictive for me. I wanted as much access as I could get, so I either needed massive cabinet doors or to open the entire panel. Sine the panel is huge, it's very heavy, so I couldn't simply detach it or swing it up. Linear actuators seemed perfect. I wired them to a car alarm base unit; now the operate with a remote :)
