My friend has a Apple Macbook, it starts up and it stops at the grey start page with the apple in the middle and won't go any farther then that... Anyone know what could be up?

User error, somehow. Macs don't mess up, EVER!

i used to work at the apple store and this is my experience with that issue.. you can try to reinstall OSX but the HD is usually a gonner, time to upgrade.. or the other thing that sometimes happens is if it restarts while installing an OSX component it messes things up

OSX has a BLUE startup screen - OS9 had the grey.

Usually it indicates a problem with the startfolder - what model is the Mac?

I'll have to ask him when I go back over to his house today...

He has 2 major problems:

1. He bought a mac
2. He's friends with you.

Correct above problems & life will be merry :)

I wonder what would happen if I report the post of the President?

Try to start it from the osx cd. If that fails, take it to a technician.

A committee would look at it and debate it over a few beers.

I'll volunteer to serve on the committee at the beer meeting! :D

2 things I would try.

First off see if you can get verbose mode to start and give you an idea what it's hanging on. Turn power on and hold down command-v. You'll see all the unix stuff that's normally hidden.

Second after you see what it hates, now you go into single user mode. Start computer again and hold down command-s. That'll take you to a command prompt. Enter in 'fsck -fy' and hit enter. That should take maybe 5 minutes at most.

If that still doesn't fix it, and this assuming we're dealing with a software issue and not hardware, then I'd run DiskWarrior on it. That will fix most other issues.

If you need, I might be able to meet you somewhere today and run that for you as I have it installed on a Mac bootable thumb drive.

Oh and LilRobb, OS X starts with a grey screen then it goes to a blue screen.
