Really?? Cuz that's a good place for me to go, since it's near me. I didn't hear about this.

Water matresses? Then you could put the fish in the matress!

An awful lot of new stores in Atlanta in the last couple of years. I remember when it just use to be the Fish Store and More, Marine Fish in Marietta and a handful of also rans.

Can't be a good time to be opening an aquarium store or having new energetic competitors enter the marketplace. Less dollars to go around and some folks who have raised the bar.

I've only recently gotten back into the hobby, but I think the bar has been raised by people like Creation and Marine Design. And there are also a few good niche players out there as well like Keen Reef and Einstein that do a good job serving the enthusiast.

They at least need a more detailed listing. C'mon. I might be ready to invest. Feel free to PM me if you're lurking. ;)

economy is getting much worse, instead of better as promised. it's more important now than ever to support your local fish store as much as you can. IMHO.

unless that is aquarium centers listing... its definitely closing it seems(or rather not reopening).

its really too bad, they had great items. nice coral selection. marine design has just an incredable tank setup, but unfortunatly you pay for it. aquarium showcase was just reasonable enough though not cheap, given the location, their prices seemed fair. and not a competitor for 15 miles.

sucks if it is closing.

So true with any local business. With kids being out of school and job loss or hours cut everyone including the beach businesses are feeling the pinch of less money floating around. Quality and service is playing a more important role than ever. Support the locals.

Seems lately there is a new store opening for every one closing. Atlanta Reef and Marine Fish World, and Bobby from Cap Bay's place all just recently opened.

I don't know about the original owner of Aquarium Showcase opening again in Alpharetta. That would be George and Angela, and George owns Star Aquatics in Augusta. So if they are moving back to Atlanta, there may be some truth to it.

Anyone in Augusta heard anything about this?

Not sure whose CL ad that is... but it also appeared on the 7th:

It's a sad day when long-time stores close :(

I spoke with Jorge a couple of weeks ago - he said nothing about coming back to ATL - but then again, that never really came up.

I'd chalk that up to rumor. Unfortunately, whenever something changes with a business, rumors abound.

Actually, I stand corrected. Jorge and Angela are coming back to Alpharetta.

:) Welcome home!

bummer :( had a great setup and an even better location.

about my only qualm with them was salt prices. they were very high, but tim reaped the rewards of that :p I think a bucked of seachem reef was like 60$. but fish and corals were well priced.

that just leaves marine designs in this area. petland is even gone from duluth.

That's a fair everyday price for that brand of salt. That's very close to the wholesale list price. It goes on special at the distributor from time to time... but not often.

you can get it online and local for about 40$ from atleast 2 other stores, and thats out of the 4 I visit... havent been to imagine ocean yet, cantons a trip for me unfortunatly. Im ok paying a little extra for the local service, but not 50% more...

JennM

Well add shipping for online...

Best to shop the specials when they are offered - I sold the stuff for $37.99 for a group buy when I was able to get it at a discount.

I wasn't kidding though - wholesale list is over $50 per bucket. $60 "everyday" LFS price is pretty good for that product.
