View Full Version : Closing?... Big D 07-13-2009, 4:44 PM I heard that Aquarium Showcase was closing for good this week, is this true?.. Hope not... D radha 07-13-2009, 4:48 PM Really?? Cuz that's a good place for me to go, since it's near me. I didn't hear about this. Big D 07-13-2009, 4:49 PM Just heard it today, not sure if it's true or not... hopefully someone can verify it. D Amici 07-13-2009, 4:59 PM I just tried to call and the number is temporarily disconnected........looks like im losing ANOTHER LFS near me. Jeff.mcphail 07-13-2009, 5:21 PM I heard the old owner is going to reopen another store at the old location just north on hwy 9. ares 07-13-2009, 5:24 PM whered you hear it was closing? its the only one in alpharetta, and its really quite nice. I go there frequently. HN1 07-13-2009, 6:10 PM I heard the old owner is going to reopen another store at the old location just north on hwy 9. There's still a matress store there. radha 07-13-2009, 6:45 PM There's still a matress store there. Water matresses? Then you could put the fish in the matress! RealFish 07-13-2009, 6:49 PM An awful lot of new stores in Atlanta in the last couple of years. I remember when it just use to be the Fish Store and More, Marine Fish in Marietta and a handful of also rans. Can't be a good time to be opening an aquarium store or having new energetic competitors enter the marketplace. Less dollars to go around and some folks who have raised the bar. I've only recently gotten back into the hobby, but I think the bar has been raised by people like Creation and Marine Design. And there are also a few good niche players out there as well like Keen Reef and Einstein that do a good job serving the enthusiast. Jeff.mcphail 07-13-2009, 10:57 PM http://atlanta.craigslist.org/bfs/1268335545.html HN1 07-13-2009, 11:55 PM They at least need a more detailed listing. C'mon. I might be ready to invest. Feel free to PM me if you're lurking. ;) Big D 07-14-2009, 12:11 AM http://atlanta.craigslist.org/bfs/1268335545.html Wow... looks like there might be some truth to it. D mysterybox 07-14-2009, 12:15 AM economy is getting much worse, instead of better as promised. it's more important now than ever to support your local fish store as much as you can. IMHO. ares 07-14-2009, 1:17 AM http://atlanta.craigslist.org/bfs/1268335545.html unless that is aquarium centers listing... its definitely closing it seems(or rather not reopening). its really too bad, they had great items. nice coral selection. marine design has just an incredable tank setup, but unfortunatly you pay for it. aquarium showcase was just reasonable enough though not cheap, given the location, their prices seemed fair. and not a competitor for 15 miles. sucks if it is closing. Smoothie 07-14-2009, 1:45 AM So true with any local business. With kids being out of school and job loss or hours cut everyone including the beach businesses are feeling the pinch of less money floating around. Quality and service is playing a more important role than ever. Support the locals. economy is getting much worse, instead of better as promised. it's more important now than ever to support your local fish store as much as you can. IMHO. Acroholic 07-14-2009, 4:22 AM Seems lately there is a new store opening for every one closing. Atlanta Reef and Marine Fish World, and Bobby from Cap Bay's place all just recently opened. I don't know about the original owner of Aquarium Showcase opening again in Alpharetta. That would be George and Angela, and George owns Star Aquatics in Augusta. So if they are moving back to Atlanta, there may be some truth to it. Anyone in Augusta heard anything about this? JennM 07-14-2009, 8:50 AM Not sure whose CL ad that is... but it also appeared on the 7th: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/bfs/1258007162.html It's a sad day when long-time stores close :( Jenn JennM 07-14-2009, 8:54 AM Seems lately there is a new store opening for every one closing. I spoke with Jorge a couple of weeks ago - he said nothing about coming back to ATL - but then again, that never really came up. I'd chalk that up to rumor. Unfortunately, whenever something changes with a business, rumors abound. Jenn JennM 07-14-2009, 10:56 AM Actually, I stand corrected. Jorge and Angela are coming back to Alpharetta. :) Welcome home! Jenn dancn 07-14-2009, 12:17 PM did someone say bobby from cap bay opened another store somewhere? LorenK 07-14-2009, 3:17 PM I stopped by at lunch. Definitely closed. All tanks look empty. too bad. It was conveniently next to one of my lunch spots. Leslie 07-14-2009, 4:52 PM Is Aquarium Center still open on Hwy 9? Scrilla 07-14-2009, 5:03 PM I'm Here Now, Definitly Not Open. There's A Few Otems In The Showroom But No Lights Are On. HN1 07-14-2009, 5:10 PM Is Aquarium Center still open on Hwy 9? Nope. That closed too. I have no more lunchtime LFSs. :( ares 07-14-2009, 6:38 PM bummer :( had a great setup and an even better location. about my only qualm with them was salt prices. they were very high, but tim reaped the rewards of that :p I think a bucked of seachem reef was like 60$. but fish and corals were well priced. that just leaves marine designs in this area. petland is even gone from duluth. JennM 07-14-2009, 6:47 PM I think a bucked of seachem reef was like 60$. That's a fair everyday price for that brand of salt. That's very close to the wholesale list price. It goes on special at the distributor from time to time... but not often. Jenn ares 07-14-2009, 11:13 PM you can get it online and local for about 40$ from atleast 2 other stores, and thats out of the 4 I visit... havent been to imagine ocean yet, cantons a trip for me unfortunatly. Im ok paying a little extra for the local service, but not 50% more... JennM 07-14-2009, 11:46 PM Well add shipping for online... Best to shop the specials when they are offered - I sold the stuff for $37.99 for a group buy when I was able to get it at a discount. I wasn't kidding though - wholesale list is over $50 per bucket. $60 "everyday" LFS price is pretty good for that product. Jenn |
