very nice!!! Seeing that this one is much larger than the regualr hitchikers we get, what do you plan on feeding this guy?

That is so cool! I want him, is he hard to care for? Besides having his own tank pretty much?

She is really quite large, but she's proven to be surprisingly docile. She doesn't eat much at the moment, but she supposedly ate several damels/snails/crabs per day before. I plan on feeding her much more sparingly. They really don't need to eat that much. My plan is to feed her astraea and other types of snails, along with hermits and any hitchhiker crabs that anyone is willing to donate. I'll try to give her the occasional emerald crab. The main staple of her diet though is going to be frozen foods, such as Formula One or brine/mysis cubes, along with shrimp/scallops from the fish market. Silversides and krill are also really good.

Bryan, they are actually really easy to care for. The main thing for this species, which gets very large and is exceptionally strong, is to keep it in an acrylic tank of at least 30-40 gallons. You can't keep any other mantis with it. Some people are able to keep fish with them, since peacocks are smashers. Their normal food is crustaceans. The other big thing is to have live rock and a 3" or deeper sand bed for burrowing and building. Lots and lots of LR rubble, sea shells, etc. She will pick them up and carry them to her burrow and "decorate."

Thanks, guys. She is really big. She's starting to settle into her new environment, I think, because she's becoming more threatening and more aggressive. I'm glad...thought I was going to be stuck with a sissy mantis.

BTW, her name is Scylla, after the sea nymph-turned-hideous sea monster in Greek mythology.
