View Full Version : Sponsor Map now up
http://www.atlantareefclub.org/images/sponsormap_sm.jpg (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/index.php?page=sponsormap) I finally got the sponsor map up and going finally on the site. The delay was getting all working within the site's templates. I need to add one or two new sponsors, but it should be accurate. Let me know if you see any problems.
It's linked (for now) on the home page, on the new Forums drop down menu (look up), and as an icon on the sponsor page.
Vettesarebest 02-21-2007, 7:20 PM NICE job Chris! Thanks for looking out for us!
Showtime305 02-21-2007, 7:21 PM Great job Chris!!!
Maveri9720 02-21-2007, 7:23 PM Good job Chris. Makes it very convenient to see what's around and where all the different places are.
Thanks.
Cameron 02-21-2007, 7:47 PM Did you use the google api or roll your own?
Did you use the google api or roll your own?
Google API, but I did the work to pull from our own XML file (http://www.atlantareefclub.org/sponsormap/data.xml) for the data, so that it was easier to update going forward.. Eventually, I'd like to get it setup to pull from the forum database of sponsor data, but since all that isn't even stored in the db yet, it's a long ways off.
Cameron 02-21-2007, 9:12 PM Can you manipulate the maps so they have all the same features as google maps such as the mouse wheel scroll zoom in/out?
I'm not sure that's even an option in the API. If it is, I'll certainly add it - do you know?
tsciarini 02-21-2007, 10:46 PM wow... that must of been some project manually looking up all those gps coordinates and hand typing them into xml format. You should give props to whoever pulled that off!

Good job to the both of you and anyone else who was behind the scenes and deserves credit.
Cameron 02-22-2007, 12:15 AM I'm not sure that's even an option in the API. If it is, I'll certainly add it - do you know?I have no idea... I was hoping you would. I plan on using this in an upcoming project and wanted to know its limits.
Well, it appears that the mousewheel support does exist (http://ejohn.org/blog/one-week-of-google-maps-part-7/), but every incarnation of the code that I've tried doesn't work. I'm not sure how out of date this information is (18 months, but don't know what changed).
In either case, it's a minor issue, so I'm marking this one done for now. Time to move on to other things.
mattrg_2000 02-25-2007, 7:06 PM If anyone wants a Google Earth ".kmz" file, PM me and I'll email it to you. It's 32k and holds the folder information for the 'my places' section within Google Earth. (ARC site won't let me upload this file type.)
You'll need the free download www.earth.google.com (http://www.earth.google.com) to make it work.

Lifestudent 02-26-2007, 9:42 PM Very nice Chris!
Regarding Scientific Coral, it should be noted that they do not have a store front and do not do retail sales from their location.

kwl1763 02-27-2007, 12:55 AM Very Nice Job guys!!
It would be cool to have a map like this will all the ARC members. Of course with their permission so not to disclose those in the witness protection program.
Yup- it's in the works. Just been busy with other stuff...
