View Full Version : Marine tattoos
atreyu917 05-11-2009, 7:02 PM I want to get a tattoo so bad of something to do with fish, but I can't seem to settle on something. I think I want something around my ankle. I was thinking like a couple different kinda of clowns, but I'm really not sure. Any thoughts or suggestions??

McLovin 05-12-2009, 9:27 AM http://www.psychotats.com/newweb/pages/DeanoCook/DeanoCook.htm
Thumb through this. He has done some really nice pieces and is local.
atreyu917 05-12-2009, 10:47 PM Deano is hella expensive though. I wanted to get tattooed by him, but he's got a 4 hours minimum at $175-$200 an hour. I just don't have that kind of money right now. Maybe when I get the big one on my back I'll go to him. Gotta save big for that one though.
William, what place do you work at btw? I know I've heard, but I forgot haha.
JessPete 05-13-2009, 12:10 AM I'm such a dumbarse. Kept wondering why Derek posted his obviously not a fish tat. Lol. Re-read title and I get it now. marine. ha ha
I'm an idiot. I'll be excusing myself now.
DrNecropolis 05-13-2009, 12:11 AM You wierdos and your tattoos..
JessPete 05-13-2009, 12:13 AM You're just upset you didn't see the turtle and his stripe, lol
DrNecropolis 05-13-2009, 12:14 AM hahaha
Smoothie 05-13-2009, 12:15 AM Did you moon somebody?
JessPete 05-13-2009, 12:18 AM Lol, No. I got a small sliver of a tan line across my lower back after riding the other day. Don't know if my jacket rode up, or my shirt underneath did and the jacket didn't filter sun out. So I have a half an inch wide and four inch long tan stripe across one side of my brand new tat.
Smoothie 05-13-2009, 12:26 AM So he has a red ninja turtle eye band.
Raphael!
JessPete 05-13-2009, 12:29 AM Lol, it's not actually ON the turtle, it's in the waves, and it's just tan now. Just a dumb tan line is all. Off to bed!
Smoothie 05-13-2009, 12:31 AM Boooooo

That's not a local artist is it?
JAustin 05-20-2009, 8:54 PM This one is on a chick but I'm planning on something just like it on my right rib cage. Instead of it being short and wide mine will be taller.

atreyu917 05-20-2009, 9:05 PM wow that's actually pretty cool! A LOT of color!
Flipturn88 05-20-2009, 9:19 PM I have a B&W seahorse on my left hip... If I can find a picture somewhere, I'll post it here. I wasn't so sure after I got whether it was what I wanted, but now I love it!
JessPete 05-23-2009, 12:28 PM Love the octopus!
My pic was a google find.
cr500_af 05-23-2009, 9:12 PM I'm chicken to get a tattoo. :(
I HAVE been thinking harder about it. Thinking of my daughter's name, spelled out in those colorful wooden blocks we played with as kids. I'm sure it's been done plenty, but I've never seen it.
ace1204 05-23-2009, 11:20 PM One of the best in the country for marine tattoos is right here in atlanta. His name is Deano Cook and he is expensive but well worth the money. You may have seen him on tattoo wars on tv where he won his episode with a tigershark tattoo. He did 2 full sleeves on my friends dad before he passed away. Check out www.psychotats.com be prepared to wait a few months to get an appt though he usually stays booked up. Very talented and cool guy i have met him on several occasions and he is very big into underwater photography.

+1
With a reef/marine tat it will pay to spend some extra money. You really get what you pay for with tattoos. I am about to clear some prime property on my back to get started on a reef scene. I have a college mistake tat on my shoulder and am now paying 3x what it cost to get it removed. Young and Dumb. And on that note always think on a design for a while don't go with the first thing that comes to mind.
atreyu917 05-24-2009, 12:58 AM Yeah I've seen a lot of Deano's stuff. I'm a frequenter at Psycho. This will be my first and it's definitely not 4 hours worth, which is what his minimum is. I definitely plan on getting a back piece but not till much later in life, but he'll definitely be my go-to guy. I just wish that he didn't have that minimum or he'd be doing this one!
Looks like the tattoo for me has to be held off for just a little while longer because of car insurance, etc. But maybe by the end of summer. Still trying to decided on what to get!

This was the first day. It peeled a few days later, no scabbing, and is much brighter now! I'm going to get a red hibiscus (just the outline and filled, no shading and a shark on my shoulder.
atreyu917 05-24-2009, 11:30 AM ohh that tattoo idea sounds awesome Jess! I'm afraid this will be another addiction to add to the list....
JessPete 05-24-2009, 11:41 AM Did you go to his color gallery? He's got some really fun stuff there!
atreyu917 05-24-2009, 12:28 PM Yeah i did. he's done some really great work!
WILLIAM1 05-24-2009, 12:34 PM Anyone wanting to get a tattoo should check out my work. I have 13 years exp and theres not much of a wait or a hole in your pocket after either. I usually dont charge by the hr unless its 6+ hrs. And the best part of it all is I am an ARC member:blush:
JessPete 05-24-2009, 1:07 PM So is Cliff! :D And, he has a super cute website designer!

Oh yeah! I remember that now.
WILLIAM1 05-28-2009, 12:39 AM Oh the blocks that would be super cool to do. Its a great idea how many letters and how big do you want it?
cr500_af 05-28-2009, 12:53 AM Probably 3 1/2" across, so pretty small (upper arm). If I do first name only, it is 7 letters. I was also thinking of first "stacked" on top of middle name (5 additional letters) like you would stack two rows of the blocks.
I've hinted to my wife about it and she didn't act freaked out... but if I'm seriously considering this, then the news gets broken this weekend. She DOES lurk here, so if she "spies" on my posts then the cat will be out of the bag before then!
WILLIAM1 05-28-2009, 1:06 AM You might be looking about $75 for the blocks 7 letters. It would take about 45 min to do.
cr500_af 05-28-2009, 1:12 AM You might be looking about $75 for the blocks 7 letters. It would take about 45 min to do.
And with the letter and border colored, like this?:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/Cheap9Ball/PED1048.jpg
No interest in the side art, obviously, but a LITTLE bit of 3-D effect would be awesome.
JessPete 05-28-2009, 1:16 AM Fwiw, I think it's a cool idea and haven't seen it before.
cr500_af 05-28-2009, 1:21 AM Bonus!
JAustin 05-28-2009, 7:32 AM Oh, yeah. You know it babe! The men just can't resist my.... shoulder. :P :D
I lol'd
JessPete 05-28-2009, 8:41 AM Glad I could amuse. :D

This one is the daughter's initials across the bottom, mine in the left column and hers in the right column.
JessPete 07-03-2009, 9:26 AM Too cute!
WILLIAM1 07-03-2009, 11:07 AM Looking great those colors will brighten up even more after it heals.
Narcosis 07-03-2009, 11:21 AM Well you could go with my father-in-law's idea of an ocean theme tattoo. He wants to get some rocks tattooed around his lower back and have an moray eel coming out of his crack. I thought it was a good idea. My mother-in-law, not so much.
atreyu917 08-01-2009, 11:43 PM I think I want something like thishttp://www.tankedup-imaging.com/images/eastern_clownfish.jpg
traylor23 08-01-2009, 11:53 PM This one is on a chick but I'm planning on something just like it on my right rib cage. Instead of it being short and wide mine will be taller.

Do you have the rest of that pic? LMAO
Stevhan 08-01-2009, 11:58 PM Ive got a chest piece that Im working on of a Viperfish. Its being done by Miami out of Psycho Tattoo 3. He trained under Deano many years ago and although he isnt cheap he doesnt cost as much.
This was actually a cover up of 3 jailhouse style tattoos. The shading on the dolphins is actually covering up a cross and the tube sponges cover up an eagle I think and I forgot what the other was (and more http://www.psychotats.com/newweb/pages/Miami/Miami.htm )
http://www.psychotats.com/newweb/albums/Miami/slides/DSC_0028[1].jpg
traylor23 08-02-2009, 12:01 AM Holy crap! That is awesome! Can't wait to see the chest piece.
Stevhan 08-02-2009, 12:40 AM oh, thats not my arm, just a nice cover up he did. My piece will be in black and grey as the detail so far is very realistic. It runs into my arm piece which is electric green so I might do color eventually mixed in to give it a more consistent feel.
atreyu917 08-07-2009, 10:22 AM I think I'm going sometime this weekend! Going to make the appt today after the place opens
Here's mine
http://s466.photobucket.com/albums/rr21/stallardjrs/Sailfish/
atreyu917 08-07-2009, 2:07 PM Yep, my appt is tomorrow at 2:30! Just the outline though. Not gonna be as small as I thought haha.
They never are. Mine is probably 2-3 times the size I wanted. Not complaining though
atreyu917 08-08-2009, 6:04 PM It's no marine tattoo, but here it is. finally did it
http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs121.snc1/5220_1137919244386_1119510191_30446159_6158948_n.j pg
Stevhan 08-08-2009, 7:33 PM Thats a great start. Are you going to color it or do black and grey?
atreyu917 08-08-2009, 8:06 PM Its going to be colored. I just didn't have the money for 2 more hours of work. So I'm waiting a couple weeks then going back. Haven't decided what colors yet though
JessPete 08-08-2009, 8:11 PM love koi tattoos!
atreyu917 08-08-2009, 8:12 PM I always loved them, but really never thought that's what I'd end up getting! then I got to looking at all fish tattoos, and the guy I went to does them so well so that's what I ended up getting
JessPete 08-08-2009, 8:22 PM go purple and gold!
atreyu917 08-08-2009, 8:24 PM I dunno about no purple haha.
I'm thinking like red orange instead of the normal gold that most people do.
I wanted a calico one, but heard that white doesn't tend to stay white as the years go on
JessPete 08-08-2009, 8:25 PM ooh! Like the pink!
http://tattoodesignspictures.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/koi-fish-tattoo1.jpg
Here's another take on the koi
http://www.fishingfury.com/ff-content/chopped_koi.jpg
Really like pinks and purples
http://www.zhippo.com/PleasurePointsHOSTED/images/gallery/coi-M1.jpg
JessPete 08-08-2009, 8:27 PM I've heard white will spread out and get yellow. check out thetattooforum.com
atreyu917 08-08-2009, 8:30 PM Yeah that's what i heard too. Disappointing. hahaha I saw that second one tooo while I was looking for tattoos. DISTURBING! haha
I was thinking more like this
http://neverneutral.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/koi.jpg
atreyu917 08-08-2009, 8:40 PM I really like this one too
http://tattoos-and-art.com/wp-content/gallery/koi-fish-tattoos/koi_tattoo_with_bamboo.jpg
JessPete 08-09-2009, 8:05 AM Make sure he touches up his outlining on the bottom two fins. I see two little spots that look a little shallow and your skin may push that ink out. No biggie!
ericmcj31 08-09-2009, 8:07 AM I really like this one too
http://tattoos-and-art.com/wp-content/gallery/koi-fish-tattoos/koi_tattoo_with_bamboo.jpg
haha...sorry to say...but nice butt crack pic-lol:yuk:
Corigan 08-10-2009, 10:54 PM White stays pretty well if you protect it. I.E. always have suntan lotion on, try to keep it covered up, out of the sun. Tattoos will always need touch ups, so I wouldn't stay away from white because of that. White really accents tattoos well and makes them pop. They almost always put in White last and the difference it makes is unreal.
