View Full Version : Thanks Marine Fish!
Barbara 05-05-2009, 9:13 AM I went to the big sale on Saturday 5/2. I purchased 2 fairy wrasses and got a super fantastic deal on them. (At half off one was $30 and the other was $32.50). Both were eating as soon as I put them in the tank (the same day I bought them). As of today, 5/5, both are still doing quite well, swimming and eating and coloring up nicely. They appear to be very healthy specimens and I am very pleased.

Barbara,
I got 3 on Sunday, they too are doing well. They were eating and swimming right out of the bag.

tokejr 05-05-2009, 6:53 PM All my stuff from Marine Fish is doing well - except one Pajama Cardinal. He never did start eating even in the pod infested tank, so we lost him pretty fast.
All the others are doing wonderfully, including the corals. The fox coral already has new growth!
The only one not really happy are the Japanese zoas. They're not dying, but they just won't open up. I've left them in one shaded spot for almost 48 hours, tomorrow they move into more light if they don't open today.
coolsurf 05-05-2009, 7:04 PM Glad to hear everyone's stuff is doing well. Sorry about your PJ Tokejr. The coral looks real nice. My Blasto is doing great and i'm trying my hand with an Alveopora that I got. So far so good but if it dies, it'll be on me. I know they are tough.

I bought two PJs there (to complete a trio) and they are eating fine. Hate to hear that about yours.
Only bad issue there was a rude customer... I had been waiting patiently by a frag tank until somebody got free, and about five minutes later this family walked up. They waited until an employee arrived then jumped around and grabbed him before I could. They then bought the coral I was waiting to buy. :mad2:
I realize you have to grab your opportunities when they are that busy, but what they did was like line-breaking. I'm the kind of guy who would have said "help them, they were here first" if the roles had been reversed. Hope it stings something in his tank... :grrr:

Yeah, when we got him in the tank, we knew he was iffy. No big deal, except I hate to lose an animal of any kind. We bought 3 total and the other 2 are doing fine.
I would have been mad about the line breakers taking "my" coral too!

That's OK, the trachyphillia I got was nicer anyway. :D

The pic doesn't really look right. Maybe it's the fact that only the actinics are on, but the shadowing effect around the edges isn't really that dark, and what looks like the mouth gaped open is really some coloration around the mouth. The actual slit (invisible in this pic) is closed up tight.

Wow! Beautiful!
cr500_af 05-06-2009, 12:00 AM Wow! Beautiful!
Thanks, it's a REALLY electric green under the lights, but that doesn't show on my super high-tech cell phone camera.
It was a little spendy on the price tag, but at half price how could I pass it up?
Smoothie 05-06-2009, 1:43 AM Those guys are so fun to feed unless you forget to give your shrimp a piece of food first. Theivery!

Still trying to research how often to feed it. The shrimp will rarely get off the rocks to go after food. But it has been cleaning up a storm! (Got a cleaner at the same sale).
Smoothie 05-06-2009, 1:56 AM Go every 3 days. You can even feed these guys at night, so if you ever get a sun coral you have doubly the excuse to have your hands wet past 12.

tokejr 05-06-2009, 1:58 AM The peppermint shrimp are the thieves in my tank. I go to feed the mini carpet nems, and they steal the food right off them.
Got the peppermints to get aptasia and they're useless for that. If I starved the whole tank, they MIGHT go after the aptasia. I have one HUGE one that I can't reach, practically over the head of the peppermints and they ignore it completely. So far, the only way I see to get this aptasia is to break down the tank, removing the rock to get it. Yeah, it's on the back side of a base rock.
The cleaners run around the tank chasing food, but they don't steal it off the mushrooms or nems normally.
Phantom Phish 05-27-2009, 11:49 AM Just a note to add my thanks to Marine Fish.
I didn't buy any corals at the big sale, but I did buy a number of fish. I bought a Flame Angel, Sailfin Tang, Coral Beauty and green Mandarin. The first three are all doing well and eating frozen foods. The Mandarin also seems to be doing well so far, he's in my 250 tank that has lots of pods, and I believe I've seen him eat some of the Arcti pods from Reef Nutrition that I also use to feed the tank. So I'm happy with my purchases from the big sale.
