Just bought the brand new 2009 design Reef Oct NWB-150 from Chris at Fish Scales. This thing is awesome! They have made some great improvements to an already great skimmer. Installed it today and this thing puts out a ton of bubbles right out of the box and is really quiet. You should definitely call Chris and check these out! Chris was very helpful and has gained a customer for life!

I see a mesh mod just waiting to happen..... :)

Just kidding, I have always heard these are great skimmers right out of the box. Thanks for posting the pics.

I'm torn between this skimmer, and the reef octopus extreme 200. Does anyone know the difference other than the extreme 200 being twice the cost?

Is this a recirculating skimmer? How is that different than the extreme series?

that is not a recirc skimmer, it's just not the EXTREME series that comes with the italian siccie sp? pump. If you can get the extreme series get one, you won't look back. No doubt though that skimmer is NICE!

It would be interesting to see what kind of numbers they are getting out of the redesigned opt pumps now. back in the day when i bought my first octopus skimmer, those pumps were slightly less than impressive. I can see now they have redone the pinwheel (which has gone through lots of changes) the venturi seems to be much improved and they added a BP. All in all I think it'll be a slammin skimmer...esp with the cone-ish type of new design. yes I Sicces are a new kick to the octopus line....and ment to do wonders once the purple pinwheel is added. All in all, I love the octopus line and think any skimmer they produce is well worth it. Congrats on the new purchase, I'm sure it'll do great for you :)

Hi all -

New member and first post here :-). I'm a member of the Dallas/Fort Worth Marine Aquarium Society (DFWMAS), found this thread via Google and thought I'd join so I could post. :-)

I had been researching the Octo Extreme series for my 90g but it was about 0.5" too big for my sump. (The skimmer section of my sump is 7.5"x12".) As I was looking through the CoralVue site, I noticed they had just released their 2009 Needle Wheel series, and lo and behold, the 150g model specs look like it will fit nicely in my sump!

This thread was about the only one showing up on Google that talks about the new skimmer, so I thought I'd jump in. I just ordered the NWB-150 from Reef Specialty and can't wait!

Insomnia - what are the dimensions of your skimmer section? It looks like a snug fit over there. I guess I'm just looking for confirmation that the skimmer will fit in 7.5"x12". Also, what size is your display?

Thanks!

The new dims are 7.5x12 but can be modified to 7x11.5

And Welcome!

My skimmer section is about 12 x 9 so it was a tight fit. It took a minute to get it in there. The display is 75 gal with a 29gal (about 18gal water) sump/fuge.

Welcome to the site!

If it was a recirculating skimmer, I'd def go for it ... my Octo 110 recirc blew the pump last week, waiting on new pump from fleabay, currently using an impact skimmer in the interim

They have recirculating models of the 2009 design. Check out the CoralVue site: http://www.coralvue.com/RecirculatingSkimmers.html
