I think with these prices I may have to get one myself!

Anyone else planning on picking one up?

Yes! I had such problems last summer when my AC would flake out that I'm definitely getting one. They hit right when I've got the $$$, too.

My eventual system is going to be a 60 cube + 2x25g + 15g, I'm getting the 1/4 hp.

I assume that the 1/10 hp model is the EU-AC10, not EU-CL110 which judging from the model number would be between the 20 and 35 gallon models. And the $156 is the EU-CL85?

I am having a hard time finding people who use these and have posted impressions about them. Anyone here already have one?

I am definitely in for a EU-AC10. I am tired of the fluctuations of my reef temperature, so are my inhabitants!

Let me know if you find anything, I've never had to use a chiller before so I would like to find some information about them.

I also want to pickup the EU-CL 150 (for tanks up to 35 gallons). Hopefully that will be enought to harness the heat. If anyone else has suggestion about this unit working for a 30 gallon with a 250 metal Halide on top drop me a line.

These prices are great. I plan on ordering a 1/4 since I'm debating on upgrading my lighting from 2x150w halides to mayb 2x400s. I currently have a 1/10, I think its CurrentUSA, not sure though, so I will have to sell that soon.

Do you think a 1/4 will be enought for a 120 gallon with 2 400w halides?

I guess Im going to have to break down and join the club to take advantage of this offer.

Any idea on what size for a 90gal with 2 250watt mh, and... The killer, a 75 gal sump located in my garage. The garage is not heated/cooled.

Is a 1/4th hp enough?

burdundi
02-16-2007, 11:32 PM
Izib, Sorry to be off topic, but I have often thought about putting a sump in the garage and had a couple of questions. Do you still park a car in the garage and do you every get any stray bugs in the sump?

-Andy

izib

burdundi, I was concerned about the sump in the garage at first. Its only been in the garage since October but so far no issues. I’ve got 2 250 watt heaters that seem to do the trick on heating. My garage has stayed a pretty consistent 45-55 all winter. Of course summer brings a whole new issue. As for bugs, it hasn’t been an issue yet and the sump is not covered, I’m concerned that this will become an issue in the summer. The cars, when there isn’t crap all over the garage both cars go in it. Lots of people have told me this is an issue but I can’t tell its done anything. Everything still looks healthy and both cars are fairly new so emissions are good. With that said we open the door, start the car and back out. I wouldn’t leave it running in the garage with the door open but that’s not a good idea with or without the tank.

The entire tank is still a work in progress, I would like to build some sort of closet around the sump to protect it. I had planned on putting the chiller on top the closet. I will say one thing, I will never have a sump under the tank or in the house again unless its in a fish room. I hate the smell (skimmer, etc) of a sw tank but now all of the smell is in the garage, not to mention water changes are awesome!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Has anyone ever put a chiller outside (garage)?

Just a question about these chillers. It says that it "Controls chiller as well as heater(if added)". Is that a heater you just plug into it? Or is it a special heater that is sold by said company also?

Everyone, make sure when your determining your gallons please include all your sumps etc...

The heater control is a plug in type which you can plug any heater into

Does anyone know if you can plug more than one heater into it? Also, how much clearance is required on all sides on the chiller?

I am curious on how many amps and watts the chillers draw. I am looking at the larger two models. The 1/2 and the 1/4 model chillers.
Thanks Aquaticco :)

There seems to be a digital thermostate, so do you need a controler?

burdundi
02-18-2007, 7:05 PM
I don't think you need a controller Tsunami. The digital Thermostat should take care of that.

Cameron
02-19-2007, 11:03 AM
I found some basic info which may or may not be correct:

The 1/4hp pulls 3.5-4.5 amps

The 1/2hp pulls up to 5 amps

This was pulled from a commercial website that sells the AquaEuro units (which appear to be the same units). They didn't have any details on the other units or wattage.

I spoke to Doug about the chillers. He said that they sense the temp of the incoming water and turn the chiller on and off. He has been selling the AU-AC10 for 2 years with no problems. I am thinking of getting the AU-AC50. I asked him about pumps for it and he said a mag 5 would be a good pump.

Does anyone know where I can get the space requirements for cooling on the 1/4 and 1/2ph units?

Cameron

1/4 - 12.8"Lx14.2"Wx19.5"H

1/2 - 18.5"Lx15"Wx14.5"H

Did he by chance give the required flow rate or flow range? A mag 5 gets me close to the answer, but usually they vary by size....

Thanks!

Aquaticco

It's going to depend on how many people get involved. With a low turnout I will just have them shipped out UPS directly to you. If we can get a group buy I will have it shipped via LTL. A lot cheaper.

I will keep you informed

As of today we have two orders for chillers. Based on this response I think we are better served to have your units shipped directly to you.

If you have stated you want a chiller. Please contact me by the 27 so I can get your credit card information.

When you call I will let you know what the freight costs are.

Wolfie... I got my 1/2 horse but am not planning on setting it up for a while. I bought it in advance for my someday office tank... Also I havent ever hooked up or run a chiller so I am a super beginner...
So this is just directed at everyone--- Does it matter which is the inlet and which is the outlet? I mean you put water of 83 degrees in and it goes thru the titanium heat exchanger and comes out 78 degrees right? Maybe? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

izib
03-07-2007, 10:17 PM
I may be wrong, this is my first chiller and its not hooked up yet, but im pretty sure the 1/2hp says in and out on the chiller above the input/output fitting.

WOLFIE
03-07-2007, 10:55 PM
Now why does the 1/2hp say in and out on the chiller and not on the 1/4?

At this point I am thinking it does not matter which are in and which are out. I am thinking since the chiller need a pump to pump watter through the chiller so it does not matter which way you pumping since it have to go out the other way.

izib
03-07-2007, 11:23 PM
I take no responcibility for my comment, but I agree. I cant see why it would matter either. Is the 1/4th hp also a nice chrome plated shell also? I assumed it was just grey plastic until I opened it!

WOLFIE
03-07-2007, 11:53 PM
hmm no respomciblity for your comment... :shout: I think I am going to steal that line and use it soon:

the 1/4hp look like it have plastic plated, but it look NICE. I could be wrong till I can test it tomorrow
