Recieved this a week ago... I'd like to give a report about its function, but it doesn't. Other than what I expected (crappy instructions, loose fittings that need to be resealed), the 4th stage (RO filter housing) cap leaks like crazy... by leaking I mean, two bath towels soaked by what was in the floor before I could shut off the valve. The cap is tight as per the "instructions" and the O-ring is in good shape with no pinches, nicks, damage etc. I suspect a defective housing or cap, but you can't tell by looking.

I sent an email about this five days ago, and another yesterday. Still no response. I'm in the process of deciding what to do if I get no support for the problem. Perhaps a charge dispute... but it's still premature for that. This thread will be updated as the story unfolds.

I will copy and send this to them. This sucks man. Sorry for your crappy experience after I built them up so much. Hope I can help

Do you have some connection with them, or are you just offering as a gentle nudge so they pay more attention?

I'm hoping that the third email (sent 15 minutes ago), which I admit was a little firm, gets someone to contact me. I'm always willing to get over a problem IF they take care of it. I HATE to be ignored as a customer, though.

Just a helpful nudge. I had ZERO problems with mine. I asked for help on this and sent a link to this thread. Will also email the lady that dealt with me when I bought mine. She was on top of things.

Thank you very much, the only email I had was the one on their site, plus the one that my order confirmation was sent from. I copied the email to both of those addresses.

If I get action on this, it will prove once again why this club membership would be a bargain at five times the price.

I sent 2 emails for you. Both with a link to this. Hope they see the business potential.
One of the other addresses I had was kim@ksoffice.com.tw

Sorry for your problems. When I got mine it had a busted fitting and they overnighted me 2. I have been very happy with my system and service.

I am with Smoothie....I had absolutely No problems with mine....heck they even the extra parts I asked them about @ no additional cost. I think Pure Water Club is a small operation and it just takes a little time for them to get around to returning phone calls.
I would also shoot them an email and wait a day or to...then go from there. :)
Hope everything works out for you.

Good sign... I don't know if it was my email last night or Smoothie's email, but I got an email at about 3:00 am (!) from David. He said to send a pic showing where the leak is and he'd send parts ASAP. I don't expect action on the weekend, so I'll post more Monday I expect.

Im also going to be purchasing one from here and wanted to tag along. We should have put a group buy together.

I hope all turns out well. Other than the leak, no real issues... a couple of fittings weren't tight, but that's no big deal. Frankly I was surprised that in the instructions they pretty much say that in a few years thing will start to wear out and it's better to just junk the system and buy a new one... that kind of says "disposable" to me. I expect to dispose of filters; I don't expect to throw the whole system away.

UPDATE: Got an email from David five minutes ago (yes, 1:20 am on a Sunday) and he is sending a replacement RO housing.
So far, PWC is taking care of business. Update when it arrives and we'll see if this thing works!

I wasn't going to do anything unless this had gone unanswered. I guess now my only complaint is that the first two emails got no response. I can only assume David isn't the one who got those because he has been fast to respond.

You got it at 3am because "David" is in Taiwan. I had some issues with mine and it would always be three or four days before I got a response from him. Mine leaked a little, but it was easy to fix. My main issue was that I got my order spread over a week or two. First the system, then the drinking water tank, then the faucet. I ordered an in-line TDS meter from Marine Depot and it arrived yesterday. I got 65ppm on the way in and still 1 on the way out.

I thought that was probably the reason. I expect this well be taken care of and if so I'll certainly give props to them.

hey i was in the same boat as you two weeks ago(minus the two towels full of water) David got back to me within two weeks with the missing RO membrane. Make sure to use a wrench to tighten down ALL connections before filling with tap. I would reccomend you buy some teflon tape and tighten it, mine works incredibly well for the price.

So what's the word?

I have a tracking number for a new RO canister. I don't anticipate any problems with this issue, but I'll post again when the book is closed on the problem.

I assume they sent it ground, so it'll probably be Friday or Monday before I get it. Today I get to buy 30 gal of RO water, so I'm scrounging for containers. I don't think trying to transport it in a Brute would be a good idea (though if someone tells me it will hold up to the stress I'll be happy as I don't have to go find and buy water jugs).

UPDATE:
New reservior arrived. Turns out it is supposed to have two o-rings and only had one. Oddly enough, I looked for an o-ring of the right size today because there was a groove in the cap where it looked like IF it had another o-ring it might fix the leak. Turns out I was right.

Now I have a NEW leak... at the last stage filter. It's the only one that uses some kind of push-in fitting instead of a compression fitting. It isn't apparent how that one comes apart and I don't see any way to tighten it.

Back to the drawing board. I may scrap that whole hose and do it with compression fittings also. Or maybe I'll ditch the last "taste remover" filter and let it roll. Maybe I'll have water before June.

Take it to your lfs. Maybe they have a magic trick to help.
If you know what seal you need I have an old ro that I could rob something off of and ship it to ya. Then again they should do it. If not let me know.
Sorry about all the bad luck

Just make sure on that last piece that the hose has a straight cut (I use a PVC cutter) and that it's pushed in all the way. It will go in and stop, then you can push it a bit further and it stops again.

Smoothie
05-01-2009, 3:04 AM
I still say get someone to look at it first and make sure the original stuff just doesn't need to be tightened or pushed in/attached further

cr500_af

I'll get on that tonight. Hopefully the next update has H2O in a container...

Good luck.

Not to rub it in, but I just got my 150 GPD unit from PWC on eBay ($94.99!) to replace my 35 GPD unit, hooked it up, resealed a few connections and flushed it out per instructions. I was able to fill an 18 gallon storage container with fresh water in just a little over 3 hours. Today I get to have fun running some tubing behind the dishwasher and fridge, through the wall, and behind the tank to my top off container.

UPDATE!
I now have a 32g Brute full of RO/DI water! :yay:

After fixing two more leaks, anyway. They weren't a big deal to fix.

My only gripe now is that it took well over 12 hrs to fill this container, and this is supposed to be a 100g/day unit. It's making about 50-60.

And yes, I have plenty of pressure... pump on @ 48psi and off @ 65psi.

I think I read, though, that you don't really ever get what they advertise.

Mine definitely works at about 5g/hr and the second one I ordered to keep up at the restaurant arrived today and is working great as well.

I think I may have figured out your flow problem. Mine is attached to a sprinkler/hose adaptor from home depot and I get the proper amount of flow. New one came in and I got the same. Took the new one to work and tapped into a water line and exactly what you said. Production was less than half. So I unhooked it and noticed the hole was closing up because it really hadn't been punctured that well. I wallowed that puppy out with a nail at work and now it is working like a champ.
I believe the tapping bit to be at fault by either being too narrow or too short

The customer svc sounds good but wouldn't you rather have no problems from the get go? I will be purchasing my next RO unit from thefilterguys.biz, most likely the $199 ocean reef. I have heard nouting but good good good about them.

Mine has a dedicated outlet, plumbed directly into the water stop just as you would a sink. I didn't use the saddle clamps at all.

Yes, but budget constraints meant going cheap. If I had the expendable money I would have bought it from Air-Water-Ice.
