Been trying for the past 3 months to get some Green Banded Gobies (Elacatinus multifasciatum) locally to no avail. So I'm going to order a pair from liveaquaria.com. Hoping to breed them. I have been reading up and have heard that they are similiar in difficulty level to clownfish when it comes to breeding. Can anyone point me in the direction of some literature on breeding gobies? Or a good site? I've never bred saltwater fish. When I was into freshwater, I did so quite often.
If the fish are willing, then I'm good with giving it a try. I have a spare 10 gallon laying around....
Also, if anyone would be interested in splitting shipping please let me know
Thanks,
Alison

MOFIB.org is a great resource.
I didn't see a lot on there so not sure how easy they are.
Alison,
Great choice! I love those fish and I was going to give them a go myself one of these days. I will be extremely interested in how you make out and learning from your experiece. A really good resource is the MOFIB site for info of breeding. The link is:

John Lauth (BaboonScience) has been working on gobies and blennies and is the local expert. I am sure he would be happy to share his experiences with you.
I can help you with getting the rotifers and algae cultures going that you will need.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone! They are beautiful and seem to be very personable little fish with rather interesting behaviors. I'm very excited and hope I don't fail in this endeavor.
I will definitely be joining that breeding site if I get started on breeding them.
Ack, and Bob or John...I am open to any help/suggestions/advice you could possibly give me. I do appreciate it....
I think it is definitely a positive thing to do by captive breeding rather than continuing to take from the wild stock. Hopefully it will help to keep wild populations sustainable in the future.
Any time you want to talk about what you need getting ready let me know. Happy to help you out. I would HIGHLY recommend getting Matt Wittenrich's book which gives you a ton of info on what you might want to consider and how to get started. I have a copy you can borrow if you want.

No order yet, but very soon. :) They've been on my list for months. The only reason I can think that they're not very popular in the area is because they are so small. Perfect for the nano tanks or peaceful community tanks though.

Really not to seem Holyer (holier?) Than Thou, I decided the day my Six-Line Wrasse jumped to his death that I would stick to only captive bred species.
Its strange how this hobby attracts many (some borderline) enviromentalist, yet this hobby has aided in the destruction of so much wild fauna.
When at all possible, we should curb our choices of specimens to those that ARE aquacultured. This should include Fish, Inverts, Corals, Live Rock and Macro Algae.
OK, stepping off the soap box now. Thanks
Please let us know when you have success breeding there guys, you already have a customer list.
Yes, I would love to borrow it! :D
I'll keep it in the truck so if I see you one of these days you can borrow. Of course, you can come over here any time you want and see the set up and pick it up too!
