I just got a second hand bak-pak 2 skimmer. I am looking for any suggestions or tips to keeping this thing running it's best.

I also have a question, it is letting water out about an inch off the water surface (creating bubbles and noise), how can I fix that?

Can the skimming level be adjusted? Do I just raise or lower the collection cup?

I have it running, and it seems to be doing well, I just wanna make sure I did everything right.

They have a pretty extensive forum with lots of tips and tricks, Google Creative Plastic Research.

It's either this or a red sea.

My 30g cannot hold a sump, so in sump will not work, and any other skimmer would be a total eye soar on the back of the tank.

This tank had no skimmer on it previously, and I cannot afford a new red sea, so this is what I got (...I said remember that...lol, sorry, had to :shades:)

I have a Bak-Pak 2r and seems to work fine. I am not sure about your water leak problem but I use a Rio 800RVT powerhead and I set the collection cup about 1/8" to 1/4" into the water. I use the Rio because is quite and does a good job. I had an Accela pump on it and it probably worked better but was so loud and it constantly cause bubbles to go back in the tank. If I had to change skimmers, I probably would look at a Aqua-C Remora.

What skimmer would you change it out for?

or that. I just couldn't do like the coralife or something of that nature (the big round ones would just be a big ugly thing hanging on such a small tank IMO.

Plus, I don't know the first thing about skimmers, so I'm just trying to learn some.
