Hi, I know that Current-USA has discontinued the Fission Nano but has anyone had any success with it? I have a Aquapod 12 and the the surface skim is nil. I was thinking for the price ($20) if it helped out a little bit, it might be worth it, Thoughts?

Thanks,

Adam

I've been curious of this as well. Linda just purchased one of these for her nano, I'm hoping she updates us with her results

On the Aquapod, how many weirs do you have uncovered? On my 24G AP as long as I only uncovered the top set then it skimmed the surface very well.

I just bought one of these and Loren hooked it up. It definitely seems like a powerful little unit -- makes lots of bubbles. The problem I have right now is that it sits high in the nano and when I closed the lid, the skimmer is pushed too low in the water. We took it out to figure out another way to install it. There are different configurations you can use for installation and Current includes extra parts for installing it different ways, so I'm confident we can get this into one of the chambers and working property.

Didn't know these were discontinued. I bought mine through www.petmountain.com (http://www.petmountain.com) and the price was reasonable enough for me to take the risk on this piece of equipment. If it doesn't work, not that big a deal.

I'll post an update when it's back in the tank and has had an opportunity to produce some skimmate (if it will).

Bud, can you explain this or post a picture?

I don't know what a weir is...

The weirs are the overflow slots on the right side of the tank. On the AP 24 there are several sets from top to bottom and you can cover or uncover as many as you want. If only the top set is uncovered then the surface water goes through the slots and keeps the surface clean. If any additional sets are uncovered then the water under the surface is getting pulled into the back chamber and the surface will maintain a scum layer.

In my nano, the pump chamber is only halfway filled and max capacity, if yours is the same, maybe you could try it in that compartment of the sump, the question then would be can you get it low enough for the water level, and keeping it topped off to the right height.

I'm seriously thinking bout buying one from pet mountain since they are cheap, AND discontiued. Do we have another group order in the works?

+ 1 for the petmountain group order

Do we have another group order in the works?

Yes, as soon as the 10% discount is back. Right now there's a $5 coupon for orders of +$50, which wouldn't give us much of a break. The $5 coupon expires 3/31/09 and I'm hoping the next discount will be the 10%/+$150 coupon. The $5/$50 and 10%/$150 seem to alternate.

I'm watching the PM site and will let you know.

Seems I left out a lot of items that the Seedless Dude had requested and I'm catching flak for that. grrrrr

Hi, the Aquapod 12 has the overflow on the left if your looking at the front of the tank. The AP 12 also has four inlets below the water line. Unlike the AP 24 no inlet covers are available for the AP 12. With the inlets below the water line and no covers for them the surface skim is nil. I have read that some AP 12 owners get a piece of acrylic cut and wedges it between the filter pad and the inlets, although this method doesn't make for a perfect water tight seal, it helps with the surface skim. I think I am going to try it soon, and I post the results in the DIY section. I was thinking if I did that mod, and got partial success out of the Fission Nano, I think that will help a lot.

In the pic you can see the first set of inlets below the water line, but the LR hides the second set which is in the lower left hand corner at the LS level.

Bummer, that is a total different design from the 24G. You can see in the picture the slots are on the right side of the tank and go from top to bottom.

What a great feature!! Wish I had that.

Wonder how difficult a mod would be....

The biocube has a set of slots on top, and a set on bottom, just none in the middle
