View Full Version : If something were to happen to YOU -- what would happen to your TANK?

May seem like a silly questions, but some people have thousands invested in their systems. If for some reason something happened to you unexpectedly and your spouse/family wasn't hobby-minded, what would happen to your tank?

Just something to think about. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a *Tank Executor/Executrix" and a list of beneficiaries for your livestock.

Mine has a detinator with a wireless transmitter attached directly to my heart. If I go, we all go.

I use this same system on my dogs and girlfriend too.

I just spit tea all over my keyboard. Did you make this yourself, Derek or can you buy them on-line somewhere?

If something happened to me, my wife would find a way to barter my tank for shoes, I'm sure...

I'm lucky. My fiancee (wife in a few weeks) is a bigger fish geek than I am! I know all our tanks would be in great hands. :)

Thats a question I have been asking myself for the last few weeks. This was sparked when a good friend was out playing basketball, fell in a bad way and shattered his vertabrae. He's been paralyzed from the waist down since the accident.

When things happen that close to home it really makes you start thinking about what you would do if you were in that persons shoes.

I should put it in my will that the executor will need to log onto ARC to post to the forum that the tank would be parted out.

I made them with only paperclips, scotch tape, an old muffler, and a chicken bone.

I'm not sure where mine will go. My mom will probably start learning a lot when it's up and she'll probably be able to care for it. But she knows about this site and may part it out. Or the easy way, she'd sell everything to Salt Water City.

I think my wife would be like Lee's... "Take this **** thing with you!!!"

More then likely, she would feel like it is a piece of me and could not get rid of it. That would last for about a week and then she would be begging Cameron to get back into the hobby and take this thing! "You guys were good friends, he would want you to have this to remember him by!!" Then Cameron would get back the posting title by parting out my tank.

I got one of those free Google websites. I got it cuz I thought it would be a fun way to kind of "diary" my son and my progress in this hobby. Because... as it is turning out (no surprise), I am doing all the work , and my 14yr old gets to enjoy! He can identify every coral and how to care for them, but would be hard pressed to pull off even a water change on his own. I often thought this website would be a good instruction manual for him when he goes off to college or something and wants to build up a tank. It would also come in handy if I were not around. My hopes is that someone would continue the project.

Guess I better show him how to get to the website :confused2:

Hilarious I am reading this today. My wife said this morning if I were to die, the aquarium would be at the curb by the end of the day! She was joking, so I have now tied any and all "secret" money I have to be doled out in equal distributions only if the aquarium is maintained properly. LOL

If I still had my 180, I would want to be buried in it. Unfortunately, it was such a pain to move that I'm afraid I would have to be left in situ. That would require the purchase of a very large skimmer.

But I'm moving to a cube so I'll leave that for my kids and my favorite local reefer would need to visit for water changes :-)

The cops would take mine for evidence. My wife swears if i spend another dime on "THAT @#%*&%$ TANK" she will drown me in it. That being said......I just orederd a new set of bulbs.

Mine would/ should go to the kids wing at the local hospitol. #1 Thing I hate is a kid suffering. All but the powder blue. He would have to go to someone who loves fish. Especially one who can respect a pb that is more resiliant than a damsel. Guessing he goes to the ga aquarium or goes with me

But do you have that in writing somewhere so someone would know? That was the whole point of the OP -- I think it might be worth having some kind of document so someone would know. Some people have rare and expensive corals and fish. It would be like owning a lot of jewelry and not having a will to cover it. A codicil might be a good idea.

I think if somthing happened to me my parents would probobly be so sad that they woudn't want to see them anymore. Or they could suprise me and research alot and keep taking care of it and it would be like my "memorial". I'm not sure which one they would do. I think if I died my sister would steal my 30g.

Lee, I have to agree that my wife would throw the whole dang mess in the hole with me! The two things that may stop her though is that she knows what corals cost and my son. He works on the tank with me a lot and has a love for it too. At age ten he could name more coral species and fish than many LFS employees. He would need assistance on w/c though. He can't lift a five gallon bucket to save his life, LOL!

hopefully They'll keep the tank running as they know its my passion.

and if i don't have a tank when I die, it may be because I sold it all cause I lived on a reef 24/7 and ran out of oxygen.

but, if they did sell it, it should be done her cheaply. well not to cheap :D

Unfortunately, my wife hates my tank like I hate her 2 furballs. I can't stand her cats, they shed and get hair all over everything! I would probably leave it to my boys, they like it, but aren't old enough to do all the maintenance.....that means she would have too....do it all...hehehhehe, revenge is mine!!!:D

I made my wife sign up for ARC for that very reason. She's interested in it as much as I am (the tank, not my dying), but she hasn't done any real hands-on stuff with it. This week there's a water change comin' up, and I just decided she's gonna do it. Now to break it to her...
